What's On the Ballot w/ Texas Attorney General Democratic Nominee Rochelle Garza

23m · Summer's Vibes · 19 Oct 05:00

On this week's episode we have Texas Attorney General Democratic Nominee Rochelle Garza on to talk about what is on the ballot and why this midterm 2022 election is important not only nationwide but also right here in the state of Texas.

Rochelle Garza is a civil rights attorney and 5th generation Texan from the Rio Grande Valley. Her parents met as public school teachers and together taught Rochelle to have faith, work hard, and that every person is deserving of dignity and respect.

Rochelle became a lawyer for the people and has legal expertise in immigration, family, criminal and constitutional law — fighting for children, immigrants and our most vulnerable. In a landmark case which received national attention, Rochelle took on Donald Trump, Ken Paxton, and Brett Kavanaugh when they tried to prevent an immigrant teen, Jane Doe, from exercising her right to choose — and won.

This case resulted in the reinforcement of reproductive rights across the country with the implementation of the “Garza Notice,” named after Rochelle, which mandates the federal government notify teens in immigration detention of their constitutional right to access abortion care without obstruction or fear of retaliation. As Attorney General, Rochelle will fight for all Texans.

Rochelle graduated from the University of Houston Law Center and from Brown University with honors. Rochelle and Adam, her husband, live in Brownsville with their newborn daughter and their dog, Ramses.

For The City w/ Houston Mayoral Candidate Chris Hollins

On this week's episode we are speaking with Houston Mayoral Candidate, Chris Hollins on why he is running for mayor, changes he will make in the city and the power of your vote.

Chris Hollins has shown what local government can achieve when new ideas and accountable leadership are met with real purpose. Chris led the 2020 elections effort in Harris County as County Clerk and gained national acclaim for protecting and expanding voting rights for 2.5 million Houston-area voters during the most important election in our lifetime. His innovations – which included drive-thru voting, 24-hour voting, online mail ballot tracking, and tripling the number of early voting centers–led to eye-popping record voter turnout despite the ongoing global pandemic. If you know Chris, you know he is Houston through and through. “I love this city,” says Chris. “Houston raised me.”

“When I envision our future, I see the safest major city in America with the strongest local economy. I see a city where my children are valued for who they are and what they can contribute, not based on the color of their skin, who they worship or who they love. I see the best city in America to live, work, and raise a family.

“And I see a city that never goes backward. That’s the Houston I know – always forward.”
