How can we ensure we are recruiting the best team?

33m · Leading The Coaching Change with Nadine Powrie · 05 Jun 05:03

*** What does talent acquisition look like in the midst of a pandemic? ***

The short answer is digital—very, very digital.

Thanks to Covid-19, the traditional hiring process has been harder than ever this year as recruiters and candidates scrambled to adapt to a fully remote experience.

Here's the thing: 'According to a Sage report, 24% of businesses have started using AI for their talent acquisition needs, with 56% of managers planning to adopt automated technology in the next twelve months.' (Forbes, 2021)

Success-capable candidates in 2021 will demonstrate strong communication, ease with technology and a flexible, adaptable approach to their work.

Sneek peak of questions we discuss:
- How to adopt hiring technologies such as automation and AI
- How to stay personal when the organisation uses AI as part of your recruitment process
- How to eliminate bias in the hiring process
- What are the long-term hiring strategies?

The end is the beginning

This is the end....the end of my 'Leading the Coaching Change Podcast'. They say the end is the beginning.

Leading the coaching podcast has been even better than I had imagined. How did it really happen? A combination of the right time, right place, right people, instincts, hard work, attention to details, teams work and a lot of luck and magic. I still remind myself to keep thinking ahead, stay positive, and dream big.

I just wanted to take that moment to thank all of you around the globe for taking the time to listen to my podcasts, to implement anything that you’ve learned from them, to leave a review, as you become the best leader you can be. I’ve met incredible people, all my amazing guests.

It’s been an incredible journey and I hope that you continue to listen to my conversations with remarkable people over on my LinkedIn live and that you continue learning from me.

I've learned a great deal and share with you my 4 key points.

It’s been my absolute pleasure to serve you. I wish you all the best and I leave you by saying Thank you.

The power of having non negotiables

When I feel like saying no!

A non-negotiable is a commitment to yourself that you will not break.

You may have only one or we may have a few.

Here are some questions that we will explore:
- What values and principles are guiding your choices?
- What results do you see by sticking to them?
- Are they part of your daily actions?
- When you follow through on your non-negotiables, what does that tell you about yourself?

Over the past few months, Jeni Ling, Jan Daines and I interviewed some candidates for a leadership post in an international organisation and all were taken by surprise with this question.

What would you respond?

How to answer 'what makes you unique at an interview'?

Imagine being in an online interview and being asked by the CEO "what makes you unique?"

- How would you respond?

- What examples would you use to back up your statement?

I am also curious
What is the best ever response you heard from a candidate (if you were on the interview panel)?

Lisa Barrow, CEO of Kada Recruiting has a possible answer "A good tip in answering this question is to start with this sentence opener. 'I was the only one who.' Or I was the first to. And fill in the blank with what you've accomplished that many others in the same situation didn't or took longer to do. Use the opportunity to respond as a way to share a special achievement that you're particularly proud of accomplishing"
