57: Britt Adams, Whitby Handbags, how fashion can be the key to one woman’s freedom

36m · Mastermind Your Launch · 23 Aug 05:00

Brittni Adams is the founder and designer of Whitby Handbags, a socially conscious luxury handbag line dedicated to preventing the exploitation of girls around the world through education, namely: Haiti, Iraq, Peru and Thailand.

Brittni founded Whitby in 2014 after two years of extensive research on the topic of modern-day slavery and its correlation to the widespread problem of girls not having access to educational opportunities due to gender discrimination, religion, or poverty.

Brittni has B.A. in mass communication, public relations from Georgia College and State University, and a master’s certificate in nonprofit management from the University of North Carolina. Brittni lives in Brookhaven (Atlanta) with her husband Jeremy and golden retriever puppy Magnolia. Apart from Whitby she is the co-founder of Atlanta Women Entrepreneurs and mentors high school girls at Passion City Church.

Mission: It’s no small task that Brittni has taken on… I loved her statement about always having the “capacity to dream”. This is so often what holds people back - not being able to visualize the possibilities right in front of them.

Mindset: Can you imagine someone launching a fashion company with no fashion experience? With so many firsts and lessons learned along the way, Brittni shares how she was able to keep moving forward putting one foot in front of the other.

Marketing: “Throw a party”. That was the advice that Brittni implemented during her launch and it turned out to be a great success. Listen as she shares the story of the launch party and why it made all the difference.

Masterminds:  Community makes all the difference… Brittni shares the impact that Atlanta’s Plywood People community has made along her journey.

Mastermind Challenge: I love Brittni’s story about the launch party for Whitby and how it really changed the momentum of her business. Having hosted many events for MYL, I know that there’s nothing like the energy of bringing people together. How can you create an event around your business that allows people to enjoy an experience that forever reminds them of you and your mission?

Kimberly Barnes/ContentPark

An advocate for social justice. A tireless volunteer. A wannabe hacker. An honest and thoughtful friend. A weekend karaoke singer. A serial entrepreneur.

One thing that can’t be said about Kimberly Barnes is that she’s one dimensional.

Kimberly is the founder of ContentPark—a tech-driven content agency that specializes in the production of premium content for large brands and mid-sized businesses. ContentPark provides its clients with content that’s narratively compelling, culturally attuned, and SEO-smart.

Their work can be seen on web assets managed by Fortune 500 companies, such as Macy’s, AT&T and Southern Company.

Prior to ContentPark, Kimberly spent more than a decade putting her marketing expertise to work in higher education, at Fortune 500 companies and at globally-recognized, privately-held small businesses across the country. She guided company and campaign strategies and improved organizational efficiency as a data analyst. And as a creative director, both in an agency and in-house, Kimberly led teams through marketing campaign design and execution.

In her last corporate role, Kimberly was an SEO analyst where she worked with some of the more influential leaders in the industry on national telecom accounts, including Verizon, DirecTV and Frontier Communications.

Kimberly is a proud graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she began her post-secondary education as a chemical engineering major. After graduating at the top of her business class with a bachelor of science in marketing, this self-proclaimed technophile taught herself HTML, CSS and PHP and received formal training in Ruby on Rails. She has since used this knowledge in a variety of her roles.

Overall, Kimberly desires to improve the content world and the community as a whole. She passionately dedicates her time to eradicating hunger and homelessness and is a staunch advocate for diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

A lifelong learner, Kimberly is rarely seen without a book. She invests energy in self-study topics, such as self-improvement, marketing and consumer behavior, or cutting-edge tech, including artificial intelligence and machine learning.
