Working On Purpose

35m · Ordinary · 30 Mar 12:20

In a world with COVID-19, social distancing & self-quarantines have become our new normal. As we collectively learn how to adjust & adapt to this new way of living, I thought there was no better time to speak with a mental health professional on purpose in the workplace. Today, Maren shares her story on finding a career in therapy and gives us tools every professional can use to empower themselves, and become more fulfilled at their job (and all of her advice can start right at home so consider it quarantine approved). She talks us through the mental health stigma amongst working professionals, workplace happiness, and even self-care tips for the overwhelmed listener. Enjoy

The Art of Adaptation

Today I talk to Ryan King. Ryan has spent the majority of his career being forced to adapt and no matter what kind of curveballs are thrown at him, he has seemed to have mastered the art of blooming where he’s planted. As a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and a Major in the Marine Core, Ryan’s multiple deployments never let him get too comfortable in one place. After 16 years of serving out of college, Ryan decided to begin Medical School at the University of South Dakota and work towards his dream of becoming a doctor. After family illness and loss caused him to take a temporary leave from his program, he began his own successful business in the unfamiliar town he found himself in. Today, Ryan talks to us about how to adapt quickly to unexpected change, taking risks, and making the most out of situations out of your control.

Billy Collins

In this interview, we spoke with Billy Collins. Billy Collins and interviewer attended business school together. Since then, Billy has made his way through corporate America, and more recently has gone off on his own working as a marketing consultant. But before that, Billy was just trying to find a job with the right fit for his skills—and it wasn’t easy. We learned a lot from Billy about the dangers of pride and fear, the importance of diversity in mentorship, and so many more things. We hope you get as much out of this conversation with Billy as we did.
