March 12 Bonus Episode: Are you going out to eat?

4m · Dinner Tonight Atlanta · 13 Mar 01:40

Hey everyone, since stuff went a little crazy this week, I wanted to check in with you and see how you're doing. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most events have been cancelled. Schools have been closed. Companies have advised their staff to telework if they can. "Social distancing" is recommended until we get a handle on this virus her in the U.S. Do you still intend to go out to restaurants?

How can I best serve you? How can we as Atlanta Foodies best serve Atlanta Restaurants? They are all hurting right now.

1) Tip as much as you can

2) Order out if that makes you feel more comfortable. Go have a picnic outside. Get some sun. Getting outside is good for your anxieties, especially if you're already feeling isolated.

How do you think I should proceed with the daily podcast during this crisis? My instinct is to keep going as planned. Restaurants need as much love as they can get right now. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Dear Atlanta, Challenge Accepted

It's time for Atlanta to step up to the challenge. We are the city that created the Giving Kitchen and we are the city that can rise up and face this pandemic. We will stay home, we will be safe, we will support one another and we will give everything we can to keep each other healthy and safe.

I'm changing the format of the Dinner Tonight Atlanta podcast for a bit. It no longer makes sense to do a daily podcast making restaurant recommendations. During the pandemic things are changing to quickly to keep up with who is still open and who is offering takeout or deliveries. So now I'm doing what I can to spread the word on how YOU can help. With me on this episode is Bryan Schroeder, Executive Director of the Giving Kitchen.

https://thegivingkitchen.org/

Here's how you can help:

1) Donate to the Giving Kitchen and learn about their COVID-19 Resources here: https://thegivingkitchen.org/covid19

2) Search for and donate directly to Atlanta Restaurants and food industry workers here: https://reliefatlanta.com/

3) Order takeout and delivery and tip enormously.

4) Check out https://www.saverestaurants.co/

5) Call an elderly or sick neighbor and offer to pick up groceries for them or order delivery for them.

6) Search for #VirtualTipJar and find out how to donate directly to your favorite restaurant via Venmo or GoFundMe.

7) Stay home. Wash your hands. Don't hoard.

Buckhead South: Wednesday - Bell Street Burritos

Welcome to Dinner Tonight Atlanta! I'm your host, Susan Cooper. And I'm here to help you make decisions on where to go eat. Atlanta has no shortage of awesome restaurants. It can get overwhelming. So I'm going to take you to a new neighborhood each week and help you decide where to go tonight. This week, we're going to Buckhead, the southern end.

Wednesday, head to Bell Street Burritos at 1816 Peachtree Street. Tonight, let's keep it casual with Bell Street Burritos. They were named best burrito in Atlanta by Creative Loafing, Atlanta Magazine and the AJC for a reason. You can build your own burrito, bowl or quesadilla. And here's a tip: kids eat free with the purchase of an adult entree. You can't beat that for a humpday treat.

Pressing Pause on Dinner Tonight Atlanta

Hi everyone, given the current and ever evolving situation with the COVID-19 pandemic and restaurant closures, I've decided to put the Dinner Tonight Atlanta podcast on hold.

I want to do everything I can to support the Atlanta Restaurant industry and food service workers but my planned episodes feel super tone deaf right now. Many restaurants are still offering curbside pickup, to-go orders and delivery. I hope they can do that in a safe way. And many restaurants have decided to close their doors for now, in the hopes that they can reopen soon.

I will be sharing info from different restaurants on Twitter and Facebook to try to keep you up to date on what the current restaurant offerings are. But things changing too rapidly for me to do it as a daily podcast.

Here's one thing we can all do: find the helpers. Donate to organizations like The Giving Kitchen at www.givingkitchen.com. They and many organizations are helping those in the food service industry who are being affected by this pandemic. Also, if you know someone who is out of work, do what you can to help them out directly. Whatever money you would have spent on a meal out last week, spend it on supporting someone in need right now. A lot of folks out there need our help.

Remember, this won't last forever. We'll get through it. I'll be back to the daily show as soon as it feels right to be sending people out in public again. www.dinnertonightatlanta.com

Buckhead South: Tuesday - Bún Mì Vietnames Grill

Welcome to Dinner Tonight Atlanta! I'm your host, Susan Cooper. And I'm here to help you make decisions on where to go eat. Atlanta has no shortage of awesome restaurants. It can get overwhelming. So I'm going to take you to a new neighborhood each week and help you decide where to go tonight. This week, we're going to Buckhead, the southern end.

Tuesday you should go to Bún Mì Vietnames Grill at 2277 Peachtree Rd. This casual restaurant is a mix of old world and modern Vietnamese styles. If you're looking for a quick bite to eat but want something healthier and tastier than your average order-at-the-counter spot, this is for you. Their menu features traditional Vietnamese bun and ban mi dishes, all with an emphasis on sustainable, eco-friendly ingredients.
