Episode 3 -

Self-awareness is a real buzz word these days. But what is being self-aware mean? and especially what does it mean to us as creatives?

We should probably spend less time believing the stuff we tell ourselves, like we aren't good enough, we're not talented, its too hard, all the self-deprecating, confidence shaking shit, we need to stop it.

But the other side of that is we also need to get clear on what we need to work on. Which is actually identifying our strengths and weaknesses in an objective way.

It's a fine line right.

Daniel and I talk about how we navigate this, and use it to our advantage.

We also chat about developing the skill sets needed to succeed in your field, and then at what stage do you need singularity of focus and work on building teams that can help you.

And we delve into how the size of your goals are probably holding you back right now. You need to go bigger. We all do.

Guys, this is a fiery episode full of philosophy, practical tips, and no-bullshit wake-up calls.

Welcome to DISMANTLE.

EPISODE 10.

-

Today's denim glad creative is Pablo Colombi.

Pablo is a multi-disciplinary graphic designer with skills in brand identities, print, web and all things PR.

He is also the Director of INSACIOUS. a publication that acts as an incubator for ideas and the creatives they are born from. Pair this with a physical space called the Mini-mart which he and his partner founded, and you will find a launchpad and community which not only fosters ideas, but encourages collaboration, connection and safety to explore and create all the shit that our beautiful minds can imagine.

Pablo first popped up on my radar as with most connections, a mutual friend who also believed in what Pablo was doing. You'll find quickly in life that when you act selflessly you will find people that will buy into the cause and will want to help you along the way. In this instance, our friend approached me after attending one of the Mini-mart's events, which showcased local artists and craftspeople, and was blown away with the conversations and connections he made on the night.

It is rare at the moment to have a physical space dedicated to such connection. As artists and entrepreneurs, we are forever being convinced to work more on our socials, to build our online brand, and most definitely we should be, but we have to remember that at the heart of it all it's about exploring what it means to be human, both through connecting with ourselves and with others.

Pablo and I discuss this concept, and what it means to be creative in work and life, and what the things are that often hold people like us back.

EPISODE 9.

What does it take to raise 20 million USD for Men's mental health and prostate cancer research?

What does it take to build a global community, culminating in a worldwide event that's held in over 700 cities all on the same day?

It takes the same stuff that is going to help you become successful in all aspects of your life.

And today we chat about it with Mr Mark Hawwa, the founder of The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, who happens to have actually done those things above.

We talk passion, growth, building a culture and teams, and things to think about if you want to make an impact whether that's on a worldwide scale, or even in your local neighborhood.

We discuss the importance of creativity, new ideas, and being aware and open to new opportunities.

And more importantly, we talk about taking action on those ideas, and not giving a single fuck about what other people say or think.

Yeah, we chat a bit about motorcycles, cause they're fucking cool. But it's really about the community around them, which can be translated to a lot of different areas.

So I say suit up, put on that helmet, turn the fucking engine on and let's go!

Welcome to DISMANTLE.

EPISODE 8

I love a coach who once was lost.

Too many "business coaches" "Social media coaches" just regurgitate stuff other people say.

But our guest today, Emily Osmond, has been through some shit. And my favourite part is that you wouldn't tell it to look at her.

In fact, I'll raise the visual assumptions. Because here I am, a bearded, motorcycle riding, stupid hat-wearing, tattooed bald man, interviewing this fresh, blonde-haired, bubbly white girl who radiated vanilla and sunshine, and I feel like we could've talked for hours.

Because Emily is people like us.

She's been through periods of not feeling good enough, of not fitting in. Has been through some dark shit that she's had to shut down, smile and pretend like everything is fine.

But then she made a choice, to not continue to live like that.

Now she is purpose-driven. She cherishes giving, facing fears, vulnerability, and connection.

Connection to each other as humans. Because we're all experiencing some kind of battle, and it's ok to ask for help.

There are so many takeaways in this episode. From dealing with the deepest kinds of depression and hopelessness to practical tips on building your brand and business on social media.

If you've ever felt lost or unsure of yourself, or want some help finding your purpose, you'll want to listen to this one.

Episode 7 -

We were in Melbourne this week meeting and chatting to a bunch of awesome creatives.

Today's episode features one such man, Mr Tom Lucey.

Tom is a brand-strategy and design consultant, and co-host of a killer podcast called Devign (@devign_tech).

So along with that, we're chatting life-strategy and business design.

In particular what happens when you realise your plans aren't what you really wanted, and where you go from there, as well as finding your community and place in the industry.

Plus we delve into the topic of self-learning and the global revolution of the education system. Something I'm deeply passionate about as I believe traditional schooling failed me, and I believe now that it is 100% our own personal responsibility to educate ourselves.

So let's chat, hear some stories, and learn some stuff from people going through it.

By Design - ft. Lyndal Harris - DSMTL.06

Episode 6 -

I approached Lyndal and her badass design studio September as a client. I had seen the beautiful work she and her team had done. I had seen the way she had spoken to clients, asked the right questions, and then told them their brand's story back to them in such an elegant and intimate way, almost better than they knew it themselves.

And I think this is the power we have as creatives, to absorb what is around us, combine it with what is inside us, and then have that speak to the world.

Creative design, and art direction, is such a subjective medium. People always have an opinion, and if everyone likes your stuff you’re probably doing it wrong. So I was super interested in talking to Lyndal about it.

Because like I said, she knows what she is doing. And she’s been doing it for a long time. But more importantly, she has done so by being what I what call genuinely lovely.

She would never go out there to “crush it” or “hustle” but man, she crushes it, and has hustled her face off to build her own business that is well known and respected. One that looks after their clients.

She is soft-spoken, accommodating, disarming, and humble beyond belief.

And in this episode she takes us on the journey of rising up within a well-established agency to becoming its creative director, to then taking the plunge back into the freelance pool, and then doing that crazy thing of starting her own agency in such a competitive market.
