Interview with Drew Edwards, Volunteer Executive Director of Brides Against Breast Cancer + Discussing How to Plan a Wedding When a Close Family Member is Seriously Ill

38m · Bitchless Bride + Beyond · 31 Oct 12:15

Season 3, Episode 5:  Today is the last day of Breast Cancer Awareness month, so I thought we’d chat with Drew Edwards, Executive Director of Brides Against Breast Cancer (BABC). BABC supports Early Detection Education Programs, Research, and Legislative efforts by selling recycled, high end wedding dresses to brides-to-be looking for an upscale wedding dress, but at a fraction of the cost. Two key takeaways? If you’re recently married, PLEASE donate your wedding dress right after your wedding! Go Marie Kondo, and get rid of it! Don’t wait, do good now or else it might be too late! BABC only accepts wedding dresses within four years of wear. Your dress is out of style if you wait ten years to donate! Second, if you’re looking to buy a wedding dress, please buy a recycled dress from BABC! It doesn’t need to be brand new to be new to you. Buying your dress from BABC could save a life!

And, in the later part of the podcast, the topic is a bit difficult, but necessary. Nathan and I discuss how to plan a wedding when a close family member is seriously ill. Yes, this feels uncomfortable. Yes, this sucks and it’s hard. However, we hope that by listening, we can help you deal with the enormity of the situation with grace, while at the same time, considering your needs/desires around your wedding.

Preserving Your Mental Health Around the Holidays - Strategies + Salvation to Get You Through

Even though we had a few technical difficulties, this show is too fantastic not to share with you! Kerri sounds a little far away, but I swear she’s right next to me (with her hand on my leg). Anyway, it’s the holiday season brideys + beyonders, so obviously, we invited Dr. Jocelyn Charnas back on to Bitchless Bride + Beyond to talk about mental health and strategies to keep your head held high during this potentially difficult time. ’Tis the season of joy, good cheer and happiness, right? Clearly, these words seem to set the exception for us; essentially dictating how we’re supposed feel, but what happens if your feelings don’t match up with the joy, the good cheer and happiness? Listen to Dr. Charnas’ splendid advice as we navigate these topics and dive into the abyss, together.

Dr. Charnas is a Ph.D., and is a licensed clinical psychologist practicing on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. She treats adults with anxiety, depression, phase-of-life and adjustment issues, and specializes in interpersonal and relationship issues.
