IN THIS WEEKS EPISODE WE INTERVIEWL Leonard J. Young III who is a native of Wilmington, DE and a graduate of A.I. DuPont High School. He attended Florida A & M University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, FL on a Swimming and an Army ROTC scholarship. Upon graduation from FAMU with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Leonard worked in Philadelphia for a leading mechanical contracting company. Leaving Philadelphia in 2004 to pursue other opportunities, Leonard moved to Texas temporarily and then back to the state of Delaware. Leonard founded Delawareblack.com, LLC (www.delawareblack.com/) in September of 2006, with the mission of promoting black businesses, organizations and local events. During the years, Delawareblack.com, LLC has organized numerous community and business events such as the recent 3rd Annual Delaware Black Awards (www.delawareblackawards.com) and the upcoming 2nd annual 2011 Delaware Black Expo (www.delawareblackexpo.com), along with numerous networking events and fundraisers. With the interest in Delawareblack.com, Leonard as formed sites in other cities: Afrophilly.com, Baltimoreblack.com, DCBlack.com, LABlackPost.com, NYCityBlack.com, MetroAtlantaBlack.com and NationalBlackGuide.com Leonard believes that his success with Delawareblack.com is largely due to the relationships he has built through his involvement in the community. In 2010, he received the Emerging Leader Honoree from Manna Christian Fellowship Church and the Community Advocate Awards from Beautiful Gate Outreach Center for his work through Delawareblack.com. Leonard is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity (Gamma Theta Lambda Chapter) and the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League Young Professionals. Leonard has also completed his Competent Communicator designation from Toastmasters International. In June of 2011, he was recognized as the Delaware SBA Minority Business Champion. Leonard resides in Newark, DE.
