EP 9: Using Feedback As A Tool To Pivot Towards Success

1h 15m · What Nik Knows · 19 Nov 19:28

I want to just chat about something really quickly before I share about today’s podcast. I did NOT post a podcast episode last week and I was originally disappointed with myself AND through the learning from my mindset reset I was able to rewire those thoughts.

If you “skipped a week” of your goals due to life circumstances, THAT IS A-OK. Sometimes our brains trick us and tell us we should be doing more. But what I say to clients is that whatever you were pulled to do in that timeframe whether it was a babymoon (like myself) or celebrating one of your best friends weddings (also me) that you should be ALL THERE. Although it may feel like business or your passion projects aren’t “moving” when you’re not working on them constantly it doesn’t mean you are behind or that you are no longer interested.

It means you are participating in something called LIFE. AND YOU SHOULD BE ALL IN WITH YOUR LIFE. The most important thing is when taking these “breaks” is that you come back with the RIGHT MINDSET and you just keep going.

Ok, are you ready to hear about today’s episode because I’m ready to share with you!

Each time I talk to Ashley Kalinkakus, I feel like I’m getting my MBA.

THIS GIRL IS A BADASS. Ashley is the Chief Executive Officer & Founder of Torigen Pharmaceuticals, a company that is focused on personalized cancer immunotherapy for the veterinary market. Wanna know how he got started? She took her graduate thesis and turned it into a business.

I took so many nuggets from Ashley - things like PIVOTING and being OK with it as it is essential for growth. We talk about how vital it is to research your market and to ask qualitative questions in order to know if you have a business. Ashley and I chatted a lot about confidence and how this young, blonde, female CEO is taking charge and in the board room & with her team at work.

Ashley believes that being confident even when feeling uncomfortable is what helps us reach our goals. WE ALL are uncomfortable when offering something that means so damn much to us.

We talk about that too- other people’s opinions are important but they aren’t there to deter you, they are to help you pivot and grow. Although Ashley leans heavily on her team and their input, she also makes sure to trust her process and ideas.

And most importantly, when she received challenging feedback, she used it as fuel and building blocks to make the business better. The biggest takeaway? Think Ross from friends with that damn white couch in the stairways…PIVOT. And keep pivoting and trying and iterating and learning. Stay open, and enjoy the ride!

OMG, you are going to LOVE this episode! Tune in NOW- Live on iTunes, link in bio!

Leave me a review as I’d love to hear your feedback!

Season 2 Finale: The Secret To Life Is Doing Less & Being More

SEASON 2 FINAL EPISODE!

1 year ago (tomorrow) I launched season 2 of What Nik Knows. It was formally known as Leader of the Pax and I solely focused on female entrepreneurship.

45 episodes later (40 live and 5 saved for season 3 launch!) the 2nd season of my podcast expanded more than I could ever have imagined. Beyond downloads, came new clients, new partnerships, and oh SO MUCH LEARNING!

When I started BMB I made a real effort in providing resources for pregnant, postpartum, and newish moms because we were in smack dap in the middle of quarantine. So the podcast become an educational and inspirational space for mothers, entrepreneurs, and personal development junkies. We focused on mental, physical, and emotional health, relationships, parenting, and identity and purpose. We cried and laughed and damn did we grow.

Today on the What Nik Know’s Podcast I celebrate the 40th and final episode of the 2nd season. The theme of today’s show is all about doing less and being more and that’s the mentality I’ll be taking with me as I hibernate before season 3 launch.

Beyond that I talk about the different guests we’ve had and topics we’ve covered throughout the year and dang am I grateful to have had these incredible people on the show!

I want to thank you for helping me grow this podcast. Because of you we are just about to hit 5,000 downloads which is a huge feat in itself. I produced many of these episodes with out childcare and nearly all of them without any production management help.

Until next season, ciao!

Is It OK To Want To Lose Weight or Should We Practice Loving Ourselves Instead? Breaking Down Body Image & Diet Culture with Molly Kate Wellness.

Raise your hand if you struggle or have struggled with your body image?

Yeah, that’s what I thought. A whole lot of us struggle with this.

Women are critiqued on their bodies right from the get-go. Too thin, too big, too soft, too muscular, too sexualized, too puritan… there is no win.

Today on the What Nik Know’s podcast I have the amazing @mollykatewellness who is a Body Image mentor.

Molly is a Body Image Coach and Mentor who believes that you can learn the skills of radical body acceptance in any body size. She loves watching people discover their inherent worthiness and step into the confident life they are meant for! Molly started coaching as a Certified Health Coach finding her niche in Intuitive Eating. Very quickly she discovered that food wasn't the root of the problem. She found that underneath that layer of food obsession, was an unhealthy relationship to our bodies. Molly's approach combines improving your body image through your head, your heart, and your body. She believes that everyone has all the tools they need within themselves and that each person has their own unique gifts and intuition to uncover! Molly believes that the more people there are being unapologetically themselves, the stronger we are as a whole!

I relate to this so much- food isn’t the problem, it’s the way I see myself.

I’ve shared on previous shows that body image and my relationship with food has been an ever changing and evolving relationship and I loved learning from Molly today.

Here are some of the amazing things you’ll hear on today’s show:

  1. The difference between mindful eating and intuitive eating
  2. How orthorexia shows up as healthy eating habits
  3. American women and body image
  4. How social media impacts our body image and what to do about it
  5. Breaking the belief system that our bodies are the only thing valuable about us
  6. How to teach children about a healthy body image right from the start
  7. How to set internal and external boundaries
  8. If its OK to lose weight or just love yourself as you are
  9. Diet culture BS

Personal Development is Not a Tony Robbins Seminar...It's Within You.

Personal development is not a Tony Robbins seminar… as much as you’d like to think so.

Today on the What Nik Know’s pod I go unscripted + unfiltered about my thoughts on personal development exertion.

We spend thousands of dollars and years doing THE WORK when really we need to do less WORK and more listening in.

Seminars, coaching, podcasts, books, all these things are tools to empower the journey but they aren’t the answer.

Personal development is not a seminar- it’s within you.
