EPISODE 01: EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING

Hello everyone! So this is the first episode of “Epiphanies & Anecdotes” and the topic that I have taken up today is Emotional Wellbeing. What do you consider a normal state of emotions? If we ask this question to anyone, I guess we all will get a list of different answers because the state of “normalcy” itself is a very subjective thing. People can have a variety of approaches towards it and will probably have perfectly good explanations for whatever answer they choose to give. If someone were to ask this to me, I think I would say when you don’t feel happy or sad, excited or agitated, but just have a feeling of inner content or peace, that’s what I’d call a normal state of emotions. We are in a disturbed state whenever there is a positive or negative deviation to this normalcy. But, what I discovered, and realized recently is that, if there is a positive deviation, be it happiness or excitement or amusement or hope, we just feel them as they are. We don’t constantly fight to get back to being in a so-called, normal state again. I’ve never seen anyone trying to distract themselves because they are feeling too much joy. It is only when some sort of negative deviation happens, like sadness or anger or hurt, even guilt, that we try to force ourselves to stop feeling these feelings and once again become content. We keep on masking our emotions and push them away. But the truth is you cannot just get rid of your emotions. You need to feel them. There is a very famous quote by John Green from his book “The Fault in our Stars” that goes- “That’s the thing about pain, it demands to be felt.” Well, I guess it stands true not only for pain but all emotions. So, my advice to you is, the next time you feel any of these negative emotions coming up, instead of trying to push them away, sit with them, accept them, label them, and give your mind and heart the time they need to get over them on their own. I have heard a lot of people say that happiness cannot be a default state of being. TRUE! But the same goes with all the other emotions as well. Give your mental as well as physical entity the space they require to breathe and get acquainted with the alleviated emotional state and the negative emotions as well will fade away on their own. So, we have reached the end of our first episode. If you want to share your views on this topic or want to talk about something else, feel free to ping me on my instagram, the link to which has been provided in the description. The next episode will be up coming Saturday. So, stay tuned in and please subscribe to the podcast and share with your family and friends. Hope you all have an amazing day and week! Stay safe & well!
