In which Mae awakens to a horrifying surprise, and then enjoys a pancake breakfast. In her first full day at the Lavender House, she goes with Laverna and Doubleday to meet the cats--cats who act a bit unsettlingly human. She also meets Stephano--a trans furry artist looking for an escape from his troubles.

Content warning for one loud noise (1:05), two mentions of parental transphobia (12:11-12:17 and 12:36-12:55), some strong language, and a long poem about capitalism, which includes a short paragraph about police violence (8:30-8:45). ACAB.

A week after the new year, you receive a transmission from someone.

Written and performed by Eli Ramos for the New Year 2021 as a companion piece to "telephone at the end of the universe" and "MAKE SOME NOISE!!" All are pieces that incorporate advice from friends for the question "if you could travel back in time, what advice would you give yourself at the beginning of the year?"

The new year has had a lot of really difficult things going on already, so I hope you are doing okay. Thank you for listening to this piece and I hope for us to be kinder and better this year. A young queer writer named Mae decides to spend some time alone at a B&B to escape her writer’s block, and finds herself increasingly ensnared in the otherworldly house. Every little thing is a curiosity, but are the unusual things about the house simply unusual, or are they more?

In each chapter, Mae explores another facet of the house, writing poems and momentary essays in an attempt to find purpose.
