In the past few years, a number of theatre artists whose works tackle political issues have faced some form of censorship or another. So in this episode, we speak with four artists—Ornanong Thaisriwong of B-Floor Theatre, Prontip Mankhong, formerly of Prakai Fai Karnlakorn (or Sparking Fire Theatre), Nontawat Machai from Lanyim Theatre, and Pavinee Samakkabutr of Free Arts and Democrazy Theatre Studio—who have had direct experience with free-speech violation. They recount some of their experiences and share their thoughts and feelings about state and institutional censorship, self-censorship, and freedom as artists in Thailand.

Kamron Gunatilaka and Sineenadh Keitprapai from Crescent Moon Theatre talk about the 7th restaging of “The Revolutionist'', this time to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of Pridi Banomyong, one of the leaders of the 1932 Siamese Revolution that transformed Thailand from absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy. ArtsEquator is a digital media platform founded in Singapore in 2016 that covers the arts in Southeast Asia. After being denied a further government grant due to the economic impact of Covid, ArtsEquator launched a campaign called Project Ctrl+S ArtsEquator to raise money to be able to continue operation. . In this episode, we got a chance to sit down and reminisce with Babymime, one of the most successful and beloved theatre companies in Thailand. The mime troupe is now 15 years old. Although only three years old, FULLFAT Theatre has already made a name for itself for being the only theatre company in Thailand that focuses on site-specific performances. Some of their most memorable works are "[Co/exist]," which was staged in the multi-purpose venue Warehouse 30 while it was still being renovated, and "Siam Supernatural Tour," which led the audience around the KBank Siam Pic-Ganesha Center of Performing Arts. Most recently, they came out with "Save for Later," a single-audience, physical-distancing performance that took us around parts of the Bangkok Art and Culture Center. We talk to FULLFAT founder and multidisciplinary artist Nophand Boonyai about his approach to performance, the intersection of his crafts, and the charm of creating performances in non-traditional performance spaces.

In this episode, we take you all the way to TPAM Performing Arts Meeting in Yokohama, Japan, to talk to Thai dancer-choreographer Thanapol Virulhakul. Thanapol is the director of “Hipster the King,” “Post Show Talk with Pina Bausch and Dancers,” and “Transaction.” His latest piece, “The Retreat,” was selected to be part of TPAM Direction in February. “The Retreat” had its world premiere in Thailand in 2018 before being selected to do an open workshop at TPAM last year.
