Books are a way of learning heaps of words- but what happens when you find a word that you don't know?

In this episode, we chat to Donna Bartley from ECTARC(Early Childhood Education Services and Training) to see how she reads to young kids.

Then we dive into a familiar tale- " The Real Estate Agent and The Three Goldilocks' " where three little girls find a mysterious, empty play village... or is it a display village?

And to bring it all together, we have a special conversation with Paint the Town REaD's Barbie Bates, Paint the Gong REaD's Tracey Kirk-Downey and Reading Bug! 

It can be hard finding words to express feelings- especially when you are a little kid! "Being naughty" -like throwing a tantrum or crying -are just ways that little one's express what they're feeling... but what happens after they let these emotions out?

In this episode, we start off sinking into a conversation with Sarah Dean(a child psychologist) chatting about the importance of giving words to kids to regulate emotions.
Then, we slip and slide into "Down the Gurgler"- an audio-sensory experience on how a little girl deals with an unexpected fear.
We finish off with our conversation with Sarah and go deeper into what attachment is and how our special person can be found.

Our journey begins with asking kids in community how they think babies enter this world,  followed by the mind-bending story "Feel the Baby"- a little brother's take on what it's like to expect a baby.

We end our episode with our lovely guest Maggie Dent- Australia's beloved parenting author, speaker and podcaster- who connects the dots with technology and play.

Welcome to Ready Steady!

In this podcast series, kids from the Illawarra come together to share stories and speak to experts about how we all can get more words to little kids. "The 30 Million Word Gap" is a study that showed that the more words we hear when we're very young, the better chance we have at a bright future! That's what this series is all about.

To kick us off, we jump into a conversation with Donna Bartley from ECTARC(Early Childhood Training and Resource Centre) about why we need more words.
Then we dive into a cheeky fictional story- a big sister helps her little sister discover her first word... "Words to Get a Friend".
We finish off the episode with Maggie Dent- Australia's beloved parenting author, speaker and podcaster- who gives us an insight into how young brains digest words.
