That Pop Culture Show 040: SDCC - Special Edition - Terre Neuve King Fyodor & Queen Ishild

20m · Published 20 Jan 17:22

Join hosts Kody Frederick and Jason DeBord this week as they travel to 2022 San Diego Comic Con and converse with the people that attend, present, and everything else in between.

Todays guests is Terre Neuve's King Fyodor & Queen Ishild Both of our King and Queen have recently stepped down and are now replaced with new royalty but Jason and Kody were lucky to learn a little about what the Kingdom of Terre Neuve is and the community these 2 maintained and help expand!

What is Terre Nueve? - The Sovereign Kingdom of Terre Neuve is a geographic chartered subdivision of the Adrian Empire inc. The Adrian Empire inc. or “Adria” as we call it, is a 501(c)3 non-profit historical educational organization based in Arizona. In Adria, chapters must sustain a membership of at least 100 people to maintain kingdom status. That's the technical definition. To most of us living here, Terre Neuve is much, much more. Terre Neuve is strength on the battlefield, talent on the arts table, accuracy on the archery range, and the blood, sweat and tears of administration. The Terre Neuvian people make us what we are, and what we are is Fortis et Fidus, “Strong and Faithful” to the end.

Kody also was lucky enough to attempt a little one on one combat. How bad could he be?

If you want to reach out and inquire you can contact the subjects of Terre Neueve via the website below: - www.kingdomofterreneuve.org

That Pop Culture Show 022: Bruce Baum, Comedian

43m · Published 12 May 07:00

According to the man himself, if it was possible to stuff Daffy Duck, some oatmeal, and Benjamin Franklin into a blender and hit the puree button, one might pour out a helping of Bruce Baum. Unfortunately, we may never know for sure.

After attending UCLA and UC Davis, Bruce was part of a community of comedians at the Comedy Store in the 1970's that included Jay Leno, David Letterman, Robin Williams, and other icons of comedy, many of whom appeared in his own student films and short films at the time.

Bruce went on to become a sketch comedian on Sunday Comics and Comic Strip Live and then a two year sting on ABC's America's Funniest People.

Known for his "Babyman" character, he went on to play him in his film, The Adventures of Babyman: Born To Be Raised.

Bruce has served as a creative consultant on ABC's Whose Line Is It Anyway?, and appeared as himself on The Simpsons, Hollywood Squares, Full House, Growing Pains, Comedy Central, HBO, Showtime and more.

Through extensive exposure on television, film, radio, and live performances, Bruce Baum has built a solid national audience, headlining regularly in Las Vegas, and top venues (and some not so top venues) around the globe.

That Pop Culture Show 030: Cassandra Peterson, also known as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

20m · Published 11 May 07:00

When you hear the name Elvira only one person comes to mind: horror icon and quintessential symbol of all things spooky, the one and only Mistress of the Dark.

Back in 1981, who could have imagined the hostess of a local Horror movie show would become a household name? Elvira was the first horror host ever to be syndicated nationally and has emerged as one of today’s most original and outrageous pop culture icons.

Elvira’s reign as ‘Queen of Halloween’ has spanned more than three decades and includes an IMAX movie, music CDs, books and more than a thousand licensed products. She co-wrote and starred in the feature films Elvira, Mistress of the Dark and Elvira’s Haunted Hills.

She has made hundreds of film, television and live appearances - including The Grammy Awards, Saturday Night Live, NBC’s Today Show, The Tournament of Roses Parade and reality shows Search for the Next Elvira, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Counting Cars, Face Off, Epic Ink and Halloween Wars.

Earlier this year, Cassandra released "Yours Cruelly, Elvira: Memoirs of the Mistress of the Dark" a memoir where she for the first time opens up about her personal life, her experiences in show business, and the creation of her iconic character.
