20: Intro to Chilean Wine

37m · Published 22 Jul 04:00

The biddies take a break from Europe and head back down to South America where they focus on another country built on French varietals - Chile. Like Argentina with Malbec, Chile has become world renowned for focusing on lesser Bordeaux varietals (i.e. Carmenere) and truly making them their own. The biddies were lucky enough to locate some wines made by more unique grapes - Pais and Sauvignon Gris - to introduce this long, skinny country and how beautiful and inexpensive it’s wines can be.

Wines Featured:

Kara: A Los Vinateros Bravos Pipeno Tinta, Clous de Fous Grillos Cantores Cabernet Sauvignon

Calla: Casa Silva Sauvignon Gris 1912 Vines

19: Intro to Portugal - Madeira & Port

47m · Published 15 Jul 04:00

Portugal - much like Spain, much like Greece, much like Italy - has hundreds of indigenous varietals not found elsewhere. Did the biddies try to simplify this episode by specifically discussing Madeira and Port? They did. Did it work? No. Madeira and Port are very unique to Portugal’s long history of wine making and come with their own set of requirements and rules. The Boozy Biddies switch things up this episode with wine cocktails featuring these styles to help cool you off on hot summer days.

Wines Featured:

Kara: Sandeman Rainwater Madeira (made into a punch)

Calla: Kopke Off Dry White Port (mixed with tonic)

The biddies focus on their light, crisp, and refreshing white wines and cava this episode while also introducing you to the history, laws, and important figures in Spanish wine culture.

With most of our passport tour, the biddies have focused on regional varietals, styles, and the history behind how the country became known as a wine region. With Germany, they focus much more on the laws and labeling of German wines in order to better educate how to pick the right bottle off the shelf. With an intricate and unique labeling system, there is certainly a lot to learn to make sure you pick the right Riesling for yourself!

16: New Zealand Wines (Passport Tour)

41m · Published 24 Jun 16:22

New Zealand is extra special to one biddie - Calla - who had the opportunity to work for a winery located there. Both the biddies though find that New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is an especially thirst quenching style for hot summer days. New Zealand is more than just Sauvignon Blanc, albeit being a newer wine region in the world, so they touch on Pinot Noir and the other regions that make up this island nation.
