Feed Drop: Guys Who Do Stuff

32m · Published 30 Aug 21:09

Stuff In This Episode:

  • We talk with former Director of Creative Media for Football at North Carolina State University, Mike Jones, about what's next in his career and how he got to this point.
  • Mike shares how it has been a life-long dream to work for the Charlotte Hornets, and the dream started as a player, then after he obtained a B.S. in Sport Management with a minor in Coaching from Liberty University in May 2018, it changed to being an agent.
  • Shortly after that, he got experience with his first camera and fell in love with Photography.
  • Mike sought out mentors, worked hard, and created a career for himself as a creative, even though he struggled with that term.
  • Mike shares stories of "making it happen" and working with celebrities.
  • We discuss advice for creatives to make their dreams happen
    • Be consistent. Do good work where you are at. You can get noticed.
    • Network. Don't be afraid to seek help and take risks to make your dreams come true.
    • It's Tuesday. To attract celebrity clients, you need to act like you've been there and not just "fan-girl" out.

Feed Swap Friday: Marriage is Hard. Divorce is Hard. Choose Your Hard.

47m · Published 26 Aug 16:00

Feed Drop from the Ex-It Strategy Podcast

In this episode of the Exit Strategy, we are joined in the studio by the hosts of the Girls That Do Stuff podcast, Sarah Madras and Jenny Midgley.

Elizebeth and Sarah talk about how they don't necessarily want or push people to get a divorce; their job is to find the best solution to everyone's problems. Although many people who have gotten as far as consulting a divorce attorney already have their minds made up.

Sarah talks about how she keeps her wedding dress on a mannequin outside her room because "why not display something that you spent so much money on." She sets the stage for walking down the hall to their bedroom to remind them of their wedding vows.

Jenny talks about her wedding day and the issues leading up to her big day.

We discuss and debunk the stereotypical roles of husband and wife and how they have evolved.

We talk about the importance of flexibility when choosing a partner and discuss the "red flags" that you need to look for in your partner before you decide to get married.

Sarah talks about how John Gottman, the marriage researcher, and his retreat helped her marriage. It gave them tools for communication that revolutionized their relationship.

Sarah and Jenny discuss navigating friendships with people outside of your marriage and their opinions about getting professional help.

We talk candidly about the seasons of marriage, what they are and how to navigate through them in a healthy way that can strengthen your relationship.

If you'd like to hear some advice from people who have worked hard on their marriage about what worked for them, how it's not always the honeymoon phase, and how it takes work to make it work, then this episode is for you.

You have to choose your "hard." Staying in a marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. The choice is up to you.

  • Jenny talks about her evaluation with Brandon and what she learned.
  • With so much information about diet and exercise, where do you start? We talk about that. Everybody is different, and the goals should be personalized and based on their goals.
  • A critical aspect of a successful and sustainable approach to fitness is to start by understanding your why. One tip is to just keep asking why at least seven times to uncover the intrinsic answer to why you want to work out and then use that as your motivation to keep going.

Quotes from Today's Episode:

"We try so hard in this world. Sometimes, we all do, myself included, try to be what we think people want or people need or what people are going to identify as legitimate and serious. And in that, we lose all of our authenticity, and when we lose our authenticity, our message stops mattering anyway." - Joanna.

"I don't think I'm smart enough to be scared," - said Joanna.
