Emma Wingfield on Elevating Artisan Voices and Understanding Your Brand Ideals

41m · Published 20 Nov 13:00
Today I’m talking to Emma Wingfield who is the London-based co-founder for Five | Six Textiles. Five | Six is a textile brand devoted to preserving the traditional artisan practice of hand-weaving in Cote d'ivoire, on the west coast of Africa. Emma and her co-founder Laine Henry, started the brand after Emma traveled to West Africa on a research trip. My conversation with Emma was unique to other creatives I’ve interviewed in a lot of ways because her business is rooted in her passion for art history and academia and research and bringing awareness to the artisans who she partners with to create all of the textiles for the brand. Before launching Five | Six Textiles in 2016, Emma's career spanned from working in commercial art galleries and curating at the MET in New York to participating in field archaeology digs. And currently, along with running Five | Six Textiles, Emma is also a  Doctoral Candidate in Visual Culture at the University of Goldsmiths, London. Five | Six Textiles has curated collections for the Tate Modern in London and the MET in new york and in September, they launched their new venture, Five | Six Project which is a nonprofit aimed at sustaining the designers and artisans in Cote d'ivoire, ensuring that the development of their artisan practices remains intact.  Follow Emma & Five | Six Textiles!  https://www.fiveandsixtextiles.com/ https://www.instagram.com/fiveandsixtextiles/ https://www.instagram.com/emmawingfield/ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hervisionpodcast/support

34m · Published 30 Oct 12:00

Today I’m talking to Suzanne Brosnan, the founder of LA based sustainable clothing brand, Zanni. Suzanne’s background is in graphic design and UI and although Zanni is her main focus, she uses her expertise as a founder to consult for other businesses on the side.
