How much is your time worth?

38m · Published 21 Apr 18:10

TIME IS MONEY! yeah, it's a cliche, but a very real cliche that helps people reach peak business success if taken seriously. Time is something that is loosely disrespected in our part of the world and so I don't really blame us when certain things happen in our workspaces. But we're trying to do better to change the narrative. How do we start thinking about our time differently? How do we even calculate how much our time is worth? how do we properly manage our time to maximize our output? Our big-daddy design guru shares a few tips to help us begin our time-conscious Journey. Put down some notes, and share with a friend if you find this useful.

Season 2 will be dropping in July. till then, don't miss us plenty. lol See you soon.

A few points to think about;

  • How much does an hour of your time cost?
  • What do you spend most of your time doing?
  • What value are you providing for your time?
  • How much does your life cost to live?
  • Be intentional about your time.
  • Clients appreciate timely delivery over dope work.

Dealing with Emotions as a Creative

47m · Published 15 Apr 13:05

They say creative people can be very emotional beings, but we barely ever speak about our emotions with others no matter what we're going through. We'd rather get to work to try and forget about it. But is this helpful? if not, how can we do our best to get ourselves out of these emotional lows, creative blocks, etc. We explore this and more on this episode of the podcast with Miss Tsetsewaa Yawson, a very good friend, confidante and advisor sometimes. lol. Everybody, meet everybody's official hypewoman. Share with your friends if you find it helpful, and take some notes for yourself. Enjoy!

Building Equity as a Creative

45m · Published 08 Apr 09:00

Equity, equity, equity, what the hell is it? we hear all these techies and entrepreneurs throwing this term about all the time. Do we understand it? how do we build it? how can it benefit us? why should we care about it? we explore these questions and more in this episode where we discuss how we can level up our skills and build more value as creative people who obviously want to make money doing what we love the most. If you're a creative person, and you love making money doing what you love doing, this one's for you. Take some notes, share with a friend and come back for more.

A few points to think about;

  • Build Value
  • Think long term
  • Explore wide, then dig deep
  • Create products from your skills
  • Be professional about your work
  • Think like a business and not as a freelancer

Why do you do what you do?

36m · Published 02 Apr 08:00

Why do you do what you do? who at all are you? why the heck do you exist in this life at all? don't have answers to these questions? don't worry, we really don't as well. In this episode, we try to look within ourselves to try to fish out some answers to these questions and we did make some pretty interesting self-discoveries. It was helpful for me, I hope it helps you at least start your journey to answer these questions too. Share with a friend if you do find it helpful. :)

A few points to think about;

  • Spend time with yourself
  • Find comfort in the silence, boredom, and loneliness
  • It's important to know why because it helps shape your future
  • Listen to the voices around you
  • channel the negative voices around you to good
  • Listen to yourself
  • Learn about yourself
  • if you’re lucky enough and your passion solves a problem, you’re still in the money-making business.
  • This is probably my favorite episode. lol

Creativity & Self Discipline

48m · Published 25 Mar 11:00

Creativity is an art that requires us to keep thinking outside the box, being unorthodox at times, and feeling free all the time while staying productive and staying alive as a business. In this episode, we discuss some experiences we've had, working with and managing junior creatives. Managing creative people is unexpectedly one of the hardest things we've had to learn, even though we are creative people ourselves. lol Shoutouts to all the creative directors and project managers out there.

Don't forget to take notes & share some of your learnings on social media. *wink *wink

Navigating Awkward Worksplace Moments

43m · Published 11 Mar 08:00

A continuation of the conversation we had about building and running teams. What to do when things get awkward in the workspace? we've been there, and this is how we dealt with it. Emotional topics can be stressful to discuss in the workplace so we'd rather compartmentalize till it's too late and we blow up in people's faces. Are you leading your peers? that can get awkward as well. We hope this conversation is helpful to you. And as always, don't forget to take notes and share with your friends and team members

A few points to think about;

  • You can't make everybody happy
  • Earn the trust of your team members
  • You're not the leader because you're better than everybody else
  • Watch Ted Lasso

Building and Running Teams; what we’ve learnt

46m · Published 04 Mar 02:00

In this episode of honestly not knowing anything, we have Mr Eldad Nutakor with us talking about how he's been able to build a killer team over at his company (Qodehub) as a design team lead. He's been doing this for a couple of years now so we can take his word for it lol. We take a deep dive into how to hire, how to possibly fire, how to even know who to hire and how to get the team to move the business from A to whichever letter you want to get to. As usual, enoy the conversation, leave a review, share your thoughts online and share this podcast as well. Cheers!

PS: This was originally meant to be the second episode but we rearranged things last minute.

Don't forget to take notes & share some of your learnings on social media. *wink *wink

A few points to think about;

  • WHY are you building the team?
  • Learn how to find the right person
  • Build relationships instead
  • Find out who can be interesting as a person
  • Get people to take ownership of the vision. Make it 'Our' vision instead of 'my' vision
  • Build frameworks and systems

Your Network is Your Net Worth

39m · Published 25 Feb 01:00

This podcast is all about learning and growing together as creatives in an ever-growing business world. We know nothing, which is why we seek more knowledge every day. The aim is not to 'teach' but to learn and grow with the community by sharing our experiences.

Cleopas is a very good friend of mine and a super dope creative designer, videographer, youtuber, art director, among many other things. He's a creative powerhouse running a creative powerhouse called VOME. In this episode, we discuss the importance of building a network of ONLY QUALITY PEOPLE because one of the things more important than the ability to do good work is the network you find yourself in. We dive into how we've been able to build networks of our own on the client-side and on the peer side as well, and how that has helped our career.

Don't forget to take notes & share some of your learnings on social media. *wink *wink

A few tweetable points;

  • You're only one person away from a thousand people.
  • You're also the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with
  • If you're the smartest person in the room, then you're in the wrong room
  • Iron sharpeneth iron
  • Learn to elevator pitch yourself
  • Evaluate your circle
  • Be confident in yourself and your abilities
  • Know the right people even before you think of knowing the skill. You'll learn on the job.
  • Most people want good enough work. Focus on building trust instead.
