Show notes:

The process of landing internships - resume building, networking, joining student associations, competitions, seminars/conferences.

Hardest moment recruiting - starting. A good solution for this tough time is finding guidance and mentorship.

How to find mentorship - Ask.

  • Find someone that is doing what you want to do.
  • Find leadership programs
  • Build relationships with people (following up with emails, sharing content, introducing them to new people, doing favors)

Machine learning in healthcare

  • Data access
  • Areas of opportunity : disease detection, drug discovery
  • Collaboration: Nurses and care givers, researchers, policy makers, administrators

Skills for Computer Science majors to consider:

  • The field is technical enough and if you want to stand out, you have to set yourself apart from others by exploring fields outside CS like: public speaking, business, agriculture, healthcare, etc.) Try to do a minor or take a course.

Competitions

  • Help you break the shyness of public speaking
  • Introduce you to intensive teamwork
  • Strategy thinking

Symbiont - value prop

Innovation with technology. Uses wifi signals to detect falls based on how the waves bounce off objects and people.

Start up experience - All students working on a startup - management of time and commitment - communications - Delegation is key - team decision making - trust - adding more people

Personal / professional development as a result of joining a startup - how to present yourself as a professional, delegation and trusting team mates.

Advice: When starting a business, focus on the problem, not a solution. It will give you greater flexibility down the road.
