The Upper Limit is what is really holding you back
32m · PublishedWe are often not scared of failure but of success. Of shining brightly and achieving results beyond our wildest dreams.
Why? Well often social conditioning and upbringing will have taught us not to be ‘braggy’ and to even feel guilty for being clever or driven or happy.
We are driven to seek acceptance and to be part of our ‘tribe’ but success and standing out takes us out of this norm and it feels uncomfortable and may even lead to rejection from those we know and love. The solution? Well to clip your own wings to ‘fit in’ and not be different. Without realising it we set ourselves an ‘upper limit’ to what we should earn, or how successful we should be or who we should mix with or what we should do. You only need to look at many celebrities to see that once they become successful, they start to upper limit themselves (perhaps with drugs, poor relationships, self-loathing etc.). The solution to this is to accept your genius and gifts and stop blocking greatness and joy from your life.

Bitter to Better
35m · PublishedIt is so easy to stay in bitterness when we feel badly done to or there is something unjust that has happened.
In this episode, we discuss moments where we have managed to harness the good that can come from these situations by turning our attention to better and moving away from bitter. This is about truly embracing the lesson and allowing it to challenge and change us for the better not for the bitter.
Do you have a scenario or a life experience that you can think about right now that really twists you, makes you feel like you were robbed? Yes? Most of us can go there. However, could you ever envisage yourself feeling grateful for that happening (even just a little bit) in your life? If not, then maybe there is more work to be done to move towards being better in those moments.

Geocentric mindsets and Emma Raducanu
41m · PublishedPrompted by an article about the tennis phenomenon Emma Raducanu that spoke of the triumph of nations and how she represents a geocentric mindset we discuss nationalism, identity, culture and overcoming unseen bias.
In this episode we discuss:
· That there is currently a tendency towards more tribal behaviours and the safety of old behaviours due to the uncertainty of the world
· That we need to check our unquestioned biases and responses to ‘owning’ someone or their merits due to tribal affiliations
· That in trying to define Emma or make her the poster girl for something else we forget that she represents a triumph of human endevour.
· Why Sarah felt pride in Emma’s achievements as she is a representation of true multiculturism but then disliked the stereotypes that were immediately attributed to her success (e.g., she has a Chinese work ethic,)
· How Hema felt the need to let her HR director know she had a British Passport after Brexit and how that and the divisions we see today bother her deeply.
· What we thought about the Jim Davidson and Ashley Banjo meeting (after Davidson complained about Diversity having a dance routine about Black Lives Matter)
· How tribalism and cultural prejudice has changed in our own lifetimes and experiences and that in different ways we all have felt we didn’t fit in at times
· Why a song from Sting keeps resonating with Chris as ‘even the Russians love their children’ and that we need to remember that tradition is a thing handed down by dead people
· What Rosalyn found out about race and class in America when she planned to rewrite The Great Gatsby and saw first-hand how marginalized some ‘different’ people can be when she visited people in India with leprosy
· That we must keep exploring our views and not get scared or polarized
· How our ‘tribal’ connections are with people of similar mindsets who are open to change and thinking and who are not afraid to celebrate differences

The Hero's Journey
25m · PublishedThis week we explore The Hero's Journey by Joseph Campbell. We give a brief overview of what it is, the main stages and discuss how it can help us if we apply it to our own lives. Are you on a quest to make a change? Is there a dragon or two to be slayed? Ros, Hema and Sarah, reflect on where they see themselves on The Hero's Journey and the insights gained from doing so. How can The Hero's Journey help you?
Bursting Our Boundary Bubbles
32m · PublishedThis week we dive into the art of boundary setting, when to say yes, how to say no and what happens when you respond in alignment. We explore creating space mentally, emotionally, physically, and even energetically and give away our secret in creating your very own “golden bubble”.
Work in Progress
25m · PublishedIn this week’s episode – we dive into the topic of Work in Progress and look at perfection over progress and vice-versa. What does progress and perfection mean to us? And how do we strive for perfection and progress?
Toxic Positivity
42m · PublishedSo, what is it? Well, in psychological terms, it's a sort of excess positivity or emphasis on being optimistic and upbeat.
The marketplace and the experimental lab that is social media is a very good example of this where there'll be lots of people who just literally put a gloss on a heartfelt post from someone in pain. It can be counterproductive as it can minimise how you/they are really feeling and not let you deal with it.
In this episode we discover:
· Why Chris met himself in this podcast as his intention (underpinned by his Northeast inbred care for others) is to help others and let them know that they've got that light at the end of the tunnel. But now he is learning to listen rather than try to fix it for them.
· Why Hema is learning to undo being the poster girl for positivity in hard times as she learned from past experience it was stressful and took a toll on her mental and physical health, her emotions, finances and relationships.
· Why toxic positivity stops us feeling our emotions and we can bury them so deep that they turn up in inappropriate ways such as panic attacks and anger.
· How Sarah is facing the loss of any children due to a hysterectomy by grieving and not allowing a happy face to be slapped on the experience as it was when she came through cancer.
· How people, who are uncomfortable with holding space with those in pain can avoid them and make it worse as with Mary Storrie whose daughter Rosie-May was murdered. After the even the most hurtful thing for her was when people crossed the road to avoid her as they didn’t know what to say.
· That it takes courage to allow people to show their emotions and not try to fix it. Like the song “How to Save A Life” (The Fray) it takes changing your default setting to just listening sometimes.
Plus, WTF! (Who to Follow: what or who has been influencing us positively this week).
