She also discusses how integrating CSR into the business is crucial, rather than having it only as a small function.

While more businesses nowadays have sustainability at the forefront of their business, there are still many that don’t and others that focus on it when regulations are enforced. There are many challenges to working with business leaders on sustainability and Hannah talks about the most common objections and how she overcomes them.

Finally, she advises that businesses beginning their sustainability journey should ensure they are educated and upskilled as far as possible, to ensure they can focus on the most important areas for their business.

Adam Bell, from marketing agency Moment, speaks to Caroline Villamizar Duque about her company “This Is Circular” and her mission to help reduce the use of single-use plastic. This Is Circular offers a refill and reuse system for everyday beauty products such as shampoo, body wash and hand sanitiser. They partner with companies producing all-natural products and deliver them by bike courier to customers in reusable bottles. When the bottles are empty, they are collected, cleaned and refilled, meaning that This is Circular provides a full-circle solution, in which the packaging never leaves.

Caroline discusses what sustainability means to her and how reducing waste became her key focus in her sustainability journey. Her aim is to prevent the waste from happening rather than solely concentrating on cleaning up the problem.

Finally, she offers advice to companies just beginning their sustainability journeys and encourages them to pick a starting point and get started and to remain flexible throughout the process.
