ROAD TO GROWTH : Success as an Entrepreneur

In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Alex Akimov. Alex migrated to the U.S. at age 19 as a touring guitarist before transitioning to music management. Alongside his wife, Lani, they utilized the emerging social platforms of the 2010’s to breathe life into the burgeoning boy band New District, which skyrocketed their global reach, landing them a Teen Choice Award nomination and tours with Fifth Harmony and Bebe Rexha. Alex saw a gap in the music advertising market that he decided to fill.

His success with New District attracted industry giants like Randy Jackson and Mike Caren, and through referrals alone, Alex began working with the top music record labels on social media marketing campaigns for world famous artists. In 2017 at the age of 31, Alex founded Simple Social, a digital marketing agency that revolutionized the way music artists are marketed to fans locally and globally. Simple Social offers music marketing services and analytics products used by major record labels, artist managers and talent agencies worldwide.

With a deep understanding of music and data science honed through studies at LA Music Academy and certifications at MIT, Alex introduced revolutionary concepts like "trigger markets.” Recognizing that emerging artists could gain traction outside of saturated markets like the U.S., Alex focused on data from other countries to create a compelling narrative for an artist's journey. By analyzing streams and social listening, he strategically allocated marketing budgets to these "trigger" regions, building momentum in smaller markets before breaking into major ones. This innovative approach allowed for a more global and organic growth trajectory for new artists.

In 2022, Alex founded his second company Sound.Me, a leading creator marketplace, uniquely positioned at the convergence of music promotion, influencer collaboration, and disruptive technology that has grown to nearly 1 Million users. The Sound platform is disrupting influencer collaboration by using fully trained AI technology to eliminate artist, agency and influencer negotiations by automatically assessing creator value through analytics analysis. This sets transparent compensation rates, ensuring artists and labels get the best promotional value for their investment. The platform's geo-targeting capabilities empower users to create hyper-localized campaigns, from promoting a song in Brazil to hyping a show in New York, all at the click of a button. In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Edrizio de la Cruz. Edrizio is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur and the first Latino Y-Combinator Visiting Partner. He is most known for selling FinTech startup, Arcus to MasterCard, in its first Latin America acquisition. In 2013, Edrizio founded Arcus, a payments-as-a-service platform, secured $19M in funding from Y-Combinator, Ignia, SoftBank, and Citi Ventures, and grew the company to 100+ employees and 100+ clients, including Walmart, 7-Eleven, Santander, BBVA, and Rappi, before selling the business in 2021. Background wise, Edrizio is a Dominican immigrant who grew up in Harlem.

To make ends meet, he dropped out of college to work as an aircraft technician, but he later returned to get his degree, worked on Wall Street, and earned an MBA from The Wharton School. Edrizio is extremely passionate about supporting other founders of color to win in Silicon Valley and has established himself as one of the thought leaders on helping aspiring entrepreneurs fundraise and succeed. He has written a book titled Underdog Founder, which will be published in September. It is a practical, no-nonsense playbook for entrepreneurs that lays out seven key principles for rising above racism, poverty, imposter syndrome, and every imaginable and unimaginable startup obstacle.

In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Marnie Schneider. Marnie is a CEO, inspirational speaker, author, philanthropist, and best of all daughter and mom. A Philadelphia native now living in the Carolinas, she consistently devotes her time and resources to help others achieve their own victory. Marnie thinks of this as “showing up” on life’s playing field, with positivity and energy, day in and day out.

Marnie’s passion for sports shines through in her book series, Gameday in the USA (Gameday). The series is in the Top 100 Kids Sports Travel books by Amazon. Writing the stories has been her way of giving back to the many great football communities across the nation. The series includes 8 books that focus on a city and its football team. It follows lovable characters, Football Freddie and Fumble the Dog, and the rich history and culture of each city they visit. In 2021, she did a virtual book reading during the Super Bowl at the Ronald McDonald House in Tampa Bay, Florida which is an annual event in the Super Bowl host city. Marnie travels all over the country doing book readings at schools, first-responder events, youth sports clubs and businesses.

Marnie finds inspiration from her family. Her grandfather, Leonard Tose, who was the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles and also founded the Ronald McDonald House. Also, Marnie’s Mom, Susan Tose Spencer, was the first female GM of an NFL team. She was also their legal counsel and VP. Their dedication to family, charity, and sports taught Marnie the importance of giving back, something she has carried forward into her career in the nonprofit sector. She has received honors for her time and attention spent raising money for the Ronald McDonald House, Alzheimer’s Association, and the Keep on Playing Foundation. To this day she remains very active with the Ronald McDonald House in Charlotte and is on their board.

Marnie’s pride is her three kids—Jonathan, Goldie and Leo. Marnie's experience with her first son, Jonathan (22 years old now) having neuroblastoma opsoclonus as a young child taught her much about the importance of an extended family and support. She is taking care of her mom who was recently diagnosed with dementia. Marnie has a heart for animals and has two rescue dogs and her handsome pony, Billy.
