S1E8: AF: Financial Consultant Eric Figueroa

44m · Published 01 Jun 16:00

This week, Eric Figueroa is Attempting Fatherhood. I met him a few years ago in NYC. We were both going to the same church and at first glance, he and I don’t have much in common. He's from Puerto Rico and at the time, he and his wife had only been married a few years, no kids and he was in corporate finance. BUT we became fast friends because he’s one of those people who is left and right brained--organized, punctual, business-minded but also a very creative, highly talented musician, speaker and community builder.

Even though he's only been in the Fatherhood game for about 18 months now, he's already dropping all kinds of gems and wisdom and I loved this interview. He also talks about how he and his wife are raising their daughter incorporating both their Puerto Rican heritage and their life in America; I know alot of families deal with this balance so it was cool to hear his perspective. And last but not least we also got really deep as we spoke about...lawn care. Yep. It happened.

Now this week is the 7th episode and final guest for season two. BUT don't worry, I've got two special episodes coming up, one will be a best-of with clips from the past seven weeks and the other will be my personal takeaways from season one, what I've learned, etc. I've also lined up my guests for season two and had a few chats already and I'm so excited to get those episodes out to you guys launching around Father's Day.

S1E7: AF: Stunt Car Driver Tony Hunt

46m · Published 25 May 15:52

Tony Hunt is a racecar driver who transitioned into stunt driving which means you have seen him if you have ever watched Fast and Furious 8 or 9 or Talladega Nights our countless commercials. Recently he won a Tauraus World Stunt Award--essentially the Oscar for stunt driving--for his work doubling Christian Bale in Ford v. Ferrari.

He joins the show to talk about walking that line between danger and safe, why being around his kids has less to do with "present" and more so with getting to know their friends and of course why he, a 50-year old man, has been tapped to be Macaulay Culkin's stunt double?! Oh man.

S1E6: AF Motorsports Photographer Jamey Price

44m · Published 18 May 16:00

When you think of a dream job, Jamey Price has it. As an award-winning motorsports photographer, he's often times running around a track for hours on end snapping off a thousand photos or more per race. His photos have been featured in ESPN, Sports Illustrated, New York Times and more. He has a documentary showing how truly insane his 48 hours spent at the track can be.

He regularly guests on photo industry podcasts talking about how he got to the upper levels of photography from snapping photos of horses to having Lamborghini tap him to travel with their team to document their races.

But like all the guests on Attempting Fatherhood, their greatest challenge and biggest job yet, is being a dad. Jamey talks about how tough it is to set those boundaries for freelance people to "turn off" and be fully at home when his mind is always thinking about the next gig. He talks about he was afraid that when he became a dad, he would lose himself, his personality and finally, Jamey tells a very funny story about when he picked the "wrong" flower according to his 2-year old son. Classic.

S1E5: AF: Car Journalist Micah Muzio

43m · Published 11 May 16:00

I've you've purchased a car in the last 15 years, chances are you have Micah Muzio to thank. He's been on camera and on the keyboard for a decade and a half telling you everything you need to know about what's the best car for you. After starting a family he decided to start making car review videos with them--they are hilarious and very honest.

He's recently added to his social following by starting a YouTube channel all about flying his helicopter (which was part of why he and his wife had a kid) and then decided to just up and move his family to the mountain.

We talk about when he told his dad he wasn't going to college, how he defines fatherhood and why he and I connected soo heavily on the fact that NO ONE told us what those early days of #DadLife would be like.

It's a very funny, very interesting interview that will resonate with a ton of Fathers out there.

S1E3: AF: "Batting Stance Guy" Gar Ryness

45m · Published 25 Apr 18:57

Better known as Batting Stance Guy, Gar Ryness has hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube, Instagram, ESPN, MLB Network and was even on Letterman showing off his hilarious ability--he deems the "least marketable skill in America"-- to imitate the various stances of baseball players at the plate.

He was one of the first people I met in LA and has remained a good friend (even being in my wedding) all these years. I actually babysat his two daughters and now they are 20 and 15 years old.

Gar drops major truths on what its like to allow your kids to fail, despite that natural tendency to want to swoop in and save them. His stories about his childhood and the rules his dad invoked are hilarious ("no singing at the table") and he speaks about what he learned as a 7th grader that he swore he would never say to his own kids.
