Luis Moreno is the owner of MoBar&Co which is a mobile bar service for weddings, corporate gigs and private events. He is a seasoned bartender and now has added coffee to his mobile bar service that crowds love. Born in Jalicso, Mexico. Raised in East Los Angeles.

As a self-taught photographer that has been practicing since 2010, I aim not only to refine my technical skill, but to capture visceral moments of vulnerability in my work. I capture portraits, landscapes, architecture that allows me to explore my relationship with the streets of my beloved Los Angeles. My work in service to the East Los Angeles community has informed most of the body of my work, and I continue to find the most inspiration from local, cultural events that bring my community together.

I grew up on the streets, and continue to explore my urban landscape, always searching for moments in time that I hope to make eternal through my intuitive photographic style. In a land of cars and freeways, traversing the city by bus, train, bike or car is in itself a study of cultures, people and nuances of our diverse neighborhoods; I attempt to capture moments that document often overlooked faces and scenes around the city through these explorations.

The presented image is most representative of the work I aim to create. It sits on the edge of art and documentation, of photography and photojournalism, and that duality is a recurring theme, not just in the aesthetics of my work, but in the content and subject matter I choose to capture.

Tijuana Freddys makes handmade salsas that will knock your tastebuds into the flavorverse! Started by Freddy himself, selling his salsa to coworkers and later his parter Heather joining the team, the duo has had such great success they struggle to keep up with demand. Freddy is truly a chile nerd and his knowledge of peppers is dope and both are very dedicated to their salsa. Great people and a great story.

Rick is half of Kernel of Truth Organics crew that dishes out 100% corn tortillas out of Boyle Heights. We talk about the bastardization of tortillas today and how they are trying to change the minds of generations marketed cheap substitutes of the real deal. Enjoy!

Mad Macks is a rapper from Boyle Heights with a style closer to the Golden Era of Hip Hop than most people would expect. He is part of the movement, East Of The River, a collaboration of like minded word smiths promoting consciousness and lyrical skill over everything. Truly a deep, thoughtful and fascinating, Mad Macks’ conversation is as complex as his rhymes and just as great to listen to. Enjoy

Salvador Chavez is back and he has more Mezcal from Michoacan for me to try and for everyone to seek out. Since our last podcast more than a year ago he has been traveling down to Mexico and creating more expressions of his La Luna brand and he is having more people jump on this project like Ryan. The mezcal is as filled with love and passion as these two have for the spirit and it comes across in this podcast. Make sure to find La Luna at a local bar or liquor store all around LA, and if they dont have it, ask them to bring it in !

Ulises Torrentera is an author on the subject of Mezcal and now a producer of it well creating his US imported brand, Farolito, out now in States. I was able to talk to him for a bit at Madre in Torrence and talk about his brand, his recent West Coast tour and sustainability in the Agave industry. Listen and enjoy !

Miguel De Los Rios is the owner of Aquila Real Tequila produced in the Highlands of Jalisco out of highly respected NOM 1414. He is from Boyle Heights and has lived a life that has instilled a passion that is as wonderful as his distilled spirit. Tirsa and Steve are the owners of Tirsa’s Mexican Cafe located at 701 W Cesar Estrada Chavez Ave Space 108, Los Angeles, CA 90012. They both attended Le Cordon Bleu and have been dishing out Mexican comfort food out of this location for two years. I sat down to talk with them a very early morning and talked about their culinary journey, how they met and how they continue to keep their passion pursuit of a restaurant alive and well with DTLA in background. Stephanie Gomez is a Le Cordon Bleu trained Chef and is currently working at Standing’s Butchery on Melrose and La Brea. Her passion for food drives her to pursuit the culinary arts no matter the angle. She’s worked in fancy restaurants, to country clubs to more recently managing food tents at the Coachella and Stage Coach festivals. In true fashion to follow passion she’s currently works as a butcher at Standing’s Butchery on Melrose and La Brea.
