Oh, you will hear about that one… It’s a fantastic and jolly one, on which Brett goes all the way in on history including Steven’s shows he performed in when he was a kid, his brother Derek’s influence on his career (and how funny Derek’s name is), being a wardrobe assistant to Brett, the reality or coincidence of spiritual moments, being placated after a rough show, the crazies of Los Angeles, quicksand, an amazing story about his worst film and - yes indeed - the one line that won’t quit… His role in John Carter… So enjoy. It does come up in the show, organically of course, but Beattie is the daughter of Jennifer Saunders and Ade Edmondson - this is only pointed out to provide some context for her upbringing, in so much as she was exposed to the in front and behind the scenes action of film and TV sets from a very early age so you know she’s schooled in the trade! You may know her from her various sketch groups she’s appeared in or from her multitude of roles on big and small screen, but now’s your chance to get to know her through her choice of films throughout her life. BONUS EPISODE TIME is upon you as a treat for being an awesome and highly appreciated listener - here’s a special from up at the Edinburgh Fringe with Brett and good friend David Earl aka Brian Gittins!
The often referenced man himself, Brian Gittins, joins Brett in a rare one-on-one podcast in Brett’s comedy cottage, where the two sit very close to one another (Brett sitting like Michael Parkinson in full interview mode) and get deep into movie talk. From the outset, Brian might appear a little foggy but oh good heavens does that change as the episode goes on… It turns out he’s a proper film nerd, so enjoy Brett teasing all kinds of goodies out of the man, starting with good old fashioned death talk, then venturing into topics such as film locations, theories on why action stars were huge in the 80s (a very interesting theory indeed), bad films and cult bad films and how they obviously didn’t set out to be bad, film theft vs homage, and a ton of other fun.

Scroobius Pip - Films To Be Buried With with Brett Goldstein #4
1h 15m · PublishedLadies and gentlemen, welcome to 'Films To Be Buried With' with Brett Goldstein! Where some might say “three is the magic number”, or throw around tired phrases like “third time’s a charm”, THIS podcast does not deal with such nonsense and we go RIGHT on into episode 4 like it’s nothing. What a perfect treat of a guest this week too - yes indeed, it is the Distraction Pieces Network head honcho and label boss Mr Scroobius Pip!
Of course, on top of the music stuff, Pip is the goddamn man when it comes to podcasts - he heads the ‘Distraction Pieces Podcast’, which is well over the 12 million listens mark now and keeps on keeping on in much the same way. He is also very hooked up in the movie world, from being a fully fledged film nerd to running a film night at the Prince Charles Cinema to hatching into a proper actor! So you know you’re in good hands here with Brett and Pip - nothing but film geek goodness, which will go into how they got introduced to each other (their ‘meet-cute’ if you will), why Pip is referred to as Brett’s “frequent collaborator” on Wikipedia, end of year film lists, full on actor talk and process and all that good stuff, the weirdness of seeing the film you’re in for the first time, his own death scenario (in regard to Brett’s question which forms the basis of the podcast!) and his own outlook on life, death and the afterlife or lack thereof. It’s got it all, and you’ll be full to bursting at the end of this slammer of an episode. Strap in - this one GOES…

First thing’s first - mention must be made of the fact that this was recorded in a car. This is probably extremely apparent but just in case you’re curious as to why there’s a lot of very motor-sounding background noise, that’s what’s happening. So with that said - you are in for a treat, as Brett and Katherine get down to the real deal serious topics with a grin and a laugh, deliberating and considering topics such as whether they want to buried in the first place, mortality and how having kids can shape one’s view on it, her family film nights showing nothing but the finest in Irish movies, the effects of ‘AALS’ (Altitude Associated Lachrymosity Syndrome - basically getting emotional on planes), and early cinema romances, but SO MUCH MORE! A wonderful backseat chat (they have a driver, don’t worry) with Brett and Katherine, where you can place yourself directly in between them and enjoy the goods therein. Get involved!
