Roger Lajoie, host of Sportsnet Tonight, interviews OHL hockey executive Sherry Bassin about the important initiative he part-founded called "Hockey for Health Heroes".

Plus, some thoughts on the NHL coming closer to a return.

30 years after their big 1990 Memorial Cup win, three former Oshawa Generals launched a fundraising campaign to help support local health care heroes.

Sherwood (Sherry) Bassin, Joe Busillo, and Dr. Craig Donaldson said the campaign is a way to show support “from the blue line to the front line.”

It’s a campaign to raise awareness and funds for hospitals in Oshawa and Orangeville while invigorating the community connection to hockey.

Dr. Craig Donaldson went on to become a doctor in the Headwaters hospital emergency department.

Founded by Sherwood (Sherry) Bassin, Joe Busillo, and Headwaters physician Craig Donaldson, Hockey for Health Heroes aims to support the purchase of new Smart IV pumps for the Orangeville and Oshawa hospitals.

“We are thrilled to be the recipient of such a unique and inspiring fundraiser to support our urgent need for Smart IV pumps,” said Headwaters Health Care Foundation chief executive Dora Boylen-Pabst.

“We wish to thank all our staff that have risen to the challenges COVID-19 has confronted us with, but we also wish to thank everyone who has chosen, and will choose, to support us through their hard-earned, philanthropic dollars,” she added. “Dr. Donaldson and physicians like him can’t do what they do without you.”

A great interview with Sherry Bassin -- a hockey executive, is known for his 36 years of involvement in the OHL as a GM, team owner and coach. His teams have won five J. Ross Robertson Cups and appeared in six Memorial Cup tournaments, including the Gen’s 1990 win. He also helped the Canadian National Junior Team win its first gold medal in 1982, and another in 1985.
