COVID-19 : How Can Your Business Adapt?

22m · Published 10 Apr 22:00

Local businesses that have relied on face-to-face interactions have been some of the hardest hit by the pandemic, making shifting to an online model essential for keeping afloat. In light of this, today’s episode contains a series of strategies for businesses such as these to use that will help them make the transition. Our first bundle of tips pertains to retail services, and we talk about how taking this moment to go digital can be seen as an opportunity to expand your client base. Next, we shift our focus to service-based businesses and provide three main paradigms that you could package your service into so that it could live and thrive online. Finally, we speak to the third category of face-to-face businesses: foodservice outlets such as restaurants. It might seem like your fine dining model is ruined but you could save it by condensing your menu and offering a delivery service. Many families could do with a morale boost from not having to cook and getting to eat a delicious delivered meal. In all three categories we mention today, we also share some of the best software platforms you can use that will speed up your process of going online no matter your degree of computer literacy or product type. Make sure you tune into this one because these creative and dynamic tips could potentially get your business running better than it was before!

How to Discover the Right Business to Start

35m · Published 10 Apr 22:00

Every person on the planet has a set of life experiences the combination of which are totally unique to them. One exciting implication of this is that these idiosyncratic traits can be leveraged toward starting an equally unique business! That’s exactly what we will be talking about in today’s episode: how to find the right business for you – exclusively you – to start. Today we will all be purposefully catching a severe case of special snowflake syndrome, except the good kind! In our session, we lay out three exercises that you can follow along with intended to help you find the business that nobody else would be better suited to start than you. The first is how to discover your hidden expertise using life experiences, unique traits, and technical skills. Next, we show you how to make your potential competitors irrelevant by determining the intersection between your unique traits and their provision of value to a market. Our last exercise will be a guide on how to optimize the business you have come up with for growth and profitability by using what we call the profit grid. The only thing these, as yet undiscovered, businesses need in order to exist and be launched into the world is you, so grab the worksheets, and tune in today to get started!

The 8 Essential Characteristics of an Entrepreneur

32m · Published 10 Apr 22:00

Nowadays there is a lot of talk about how everybody can be an entrepreneur, but the truth is that there are some essential characteristics that separate the good ones from the not so good! So, we thought it would be a great idea to share what we believe to be the eight most essential characteristics that amazing entrepreneurs should have. Of course, even the great ones don’t possess each and every one of these, and so it’s OK if you don’t either. Not possessing one presents an opportunity to grow, or a great moment to find a partner! In our discussion, we speak to the characteristics of optimism, commitment to lifelong learning, having a high risk tolerance and being able to separate ego from success and failure. Our key characteristics also include passion, decisiveness, being future-focussed and able to analyze the trends, and finally, having the flexibility to change with one’s environment. Remember, it takes a special person to fully encapsulate all the above qualities, so don’t feel like you have to exactly match all of them. The reality though is every entrepreneur is going to be faced with the need to access at least a little bit of all these, so make sure you take a listen and find out how you measure up!
