Ever watch a movie or play a game and think, “yeah right, things could never go that way,” or, “people would never react that way.” Now that COVID 19 has rolled over the world like the most dangerous wet blanket, do those far fetched plots still seem so far fetched? Could a zombie plague really wipe us out like in the movies, books, TV shows and games because of the way we reacted to COVID? Is our apocalyptic future going to be more like Mad Max or business casual? This month we discuss media that deserves a second look because maybe its not as far fetched as we originally thought.

Back in 2016, I heard a lot of people say they were going to vote for the “lesser of two evils” in the U.S. presidential election. Flash forward to 2020 and given the candidates, I’m hearing the same thing again. Sigh. So we’re bringing back the topic but changing the combatants; instead truly evil candidates, super villains, were going with incompetent candidates; 90’s sitcom characters. How would Hank Hill handle immigration? What is Al Bundy’s stance on alternative energy? What does Rose Nylund feel about the pandemic response?

Last year we had the idea to do a fictional gift exchange with the members of the site because while we are all friends and love each other, we’re not rich and a card is about the best we can do. Where as we set the limit to a high number, $1000, last year, we cranked down the limit to see how imaginative we could be at $100. How well do we know each other? Grab some egg nog or hot cocoa and let’s start the gift giving.

The purpose of technology is to make life better and work easier. Machines and computers can do almost anything these days and most of us have at least one piece of technology that exceeds the dreams of those that came before us even a decade ago. So why do we hold onto doing some things the old fashioned way? Paper calendars, sticky notes, hand washing dishes for example. This week we’re acknowledging there are better ways to do things, but in some cases we just don’t care and prefer doing them old school.
