Upside Down Tulips - A Garden Podcast

by Christy & Edith

Hi! We are Christy and Edith, backyard gardeners from Colorado. Lately, we have noticed more and more people picking our brains for tips and trouble-shooting about gardening. We think it’s kinda funny, because we’re not experts. We just learned a lot about gardening from the mistakes we made along the way. You always hear about Victory gardens – but what about all the garden failures? Gardening is about learning, experimenting and rolling with the punches. Every week we share our most epic garden failures and our biggest garden lessons. Most gardens are the result of trial and error. To reduce your chance of failure, join us in our gardens. And learn why you should plant your tulips butt side down. Winner of Best New Podcast at 2020 Colorado Podcast Awards!

104. Perfectly Practical Tips about Peas and Other ”P” Words from the Garden

50m · Published 28 Mar 22:00

Spring is here!  And we celebrate our gardens springing back into life – bulbs, garlic, chives and budding lilacs. We continue to celebrate celery – Kathryn shares a great celery soup recipe. We even appreciate the weeds.  Well, some of them anyway.

We return to our old friend, the Alphabet, and bring you a potpourri of garden words that start with the letter “P”.

  • When should you plant peas?
  • Should you dead head pansies?
  • Why do perennials sleep, leap and creep?
  • What native “P” flower is deer resistant and has over 300 varieties?
  • Why should you know the Ph scale of your soil?
  • Should you transplant peonies in the spring or fall?
  • Will we have time to get to potatoes?

Don’t worry – there is not a quiz. We answer all these questions for you. What about Pod Plays?  Yup!  We have two brand new ones! Then, we reach into our trusty old mailbag and pull out a letter about how to build a sunflower house! And we wrap up with an inspiration to surely motivate you to get out and enjoy your spring garden. Spring is here!
