Upside Down Tulips - A Garden Podcast

by Christy & Edith

Hi! We are Christy and Edith, backyard gardeners from Colorado. Lately, we have noticed more and more people picking our brains for tips and trouble-shooting about gardening. We think it’s kinda funny, because we’re not experts. We just learned a lot about gardening from the mistakes we made along the way. You always hear about Victory gardens – but what about all the garden failures? Gardening is about learning, experimenting and rolling with the punches. Every week we share our most epic garden failures and our biggest garden lessons. Most gardens are the result of trial and error. To reduce your chance of failure, join us in our gardens. And learn why you should plant your tulips butt side down. Winner of Best New Podcast at 2020 Colorado Podcast Awards!

103. Time to Celerybrate! Practical Tips for Spring Garden Clean Up

50m · Published 14 Mar 23:00

Life is a garden and Kathryn and Christy dig it!  We dig into National Celery Month.  We dig into Spring Clean Up. We dig into updates on our no-dig gardens.  Ironically, we detest actual digging… Also: find out what is peeking up in our gardens, what Kathryn does with a bucket of sand and what tragedy is coming for Christy’s vegetable garden.

Learn what the experts say are the best practices for Spring Clean Up and what real gardeners do, like us! When is the best time?  What plants are best to start with?  How to protect beneficial bugs and pollinators? When to put down mulch? When to prune woody plants, shrubs and roses? What about your lawn? Then we go into all the additional garden chores that are good to do this time of year:  Dividing perennials, cleaning containers, raised bed mending, and tool sharpening. And join in on our gentle debate on dandelions. (To pull or not to pull?  That is the question!)

We also have new & fun Pod Plays about the most powerful vegetable lobby in the world and the most clever vegetable detective in the precinct.  We open up the Mailbag and pull out a letter about reincarnating Chia Pet Heads. Can you dig it? We hope so!

Denver’s favorite character actor and successful zucchini gardener, Lindsey, joins as guest host and we dive into gardening without soil – Hydroponics!
