Allen Lewis - Healing the Brain with Functional Integrative Medicine

46m · Published 19 Jun 15:46

Allen Lewis, MD is the founder of Sancta Familia Center for Integrative Medicine. He is recognized as a leading physician in his field focused on helping patients achieve optimal wellness utilizing integrative and functional medicine to restore health to the mind, body, and spirit.

He specializes in treating children and adults with learning, mood, developmental, behavioral, and immune disorders, including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, PANS/PANDAS and Lyme Disease. In addition, he treats patients with stress and anxiety disorders and gastrointestinal issues.

His medical career was directed down a different path when his child was diagnosed with autism at age two. Without a functional framework in traditional medicine for treatment of his child’s autism and associated medical problems, Dr. Lewis began to explore integrative, holistic, and functional medicine therapies. Dietary intervention, targeted nutrient supplementation, and approaching treatment with a more integrative/functional framework proved to be effective in helping his child, as well as many of his patients. In response to seeing such profound effects with these treatments, Dr. Lewis continued to explore other integrative medicine modalities and was certified by the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine. He serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of Advanced Brain Technologies and incorporates The Listening Program®  in his practice as one of his therapeutic modalities.

Listen to this inspiring episode as Alex and Allen share a deeply personal conversation, that will provide hope and guidance to families impacted by the wide range of medical conditions he treats in his practice. Together they discuss family, functional integrative medicine, stress, autism, patient stories, and how to heal the brain.

David Perlmutter - Brain Maker: The Power of Gut Microbes to Heal and Protect Your Brain Forever

1h 4m · Published 09 Aug 19:39

Renowned neurologist and author of the New York Times #1 Best Selling Grain Brain, David Perlmutter, MD, returns to the Advanced Brain Podcast and uncovers the powerful role of gut bacteria in determining your brain’s destiny. Debilitating brain disorders are on the rise - from children diagnosed with autism and ADHD to adults developing dementia at younger ages than ever before. But a medical revolution is underway that can solve this problem. Brain Maker opens the door to unprecedented brain health potential.

Astonishing new research is revealing that the health of your brain is, to an extraordinary degree, dictated by the state of your microbiome – the vast population of organisms that live in your body and outnumber your own cells ten to one. What’s taking place in your intestines today is determining your risk for any number of brain-related conditions.

In his bestselling book Brain Maker, Dr. Perlmutter uncovers the powerful role of gut bacteria in determining your brain’s destiny. He explains the potent interplay between intestinal microbes and the brain, describing how the microbiome develops from birth and evolves based on lifestyle choices, how it can become “sick,” and how nurturing gut health through a few easy strategies can alter your brain’s destiny for the better. With simple dietary recommendations and a highly practical program of six steps to improving gut ecology, Brain Maker opens the door to unprecedented brain health potential.

Join host Alex Doman and his featured guest David Perlmutter as he returns to the Advanced Brain Podcast to discuss Brain Maker, brain disorders, and how to open the door to brain health.
