Behind -
- I graduated high school but felt behind compared to other students.  I had no plans and one question in mind.  What do I do next?

My Only Friend -
- During my high school years, my biology teacher was my only friend, a mentor someone I looked up to, and I appreciated him explaining the new culture.

First Job in America -
- The young immigrant boy finds a job to do, and I was excited to work in America, which was a step in the right direction.  

Invisible Boy -
- I was invisible to other high school kids, and as an outsider, I saw them, but they didn't see me.  

A New Culture -
- A new way of life was upon us in this new land called America.  As an immigrant boy, I had to learn what I needed to do, so I wasn't behind.

A New Land -
- America was the far fantasy land that we were dreaming of while we lived in Pakistan, and finally, that dream was to become a reality. We were one of the lucky families.

Waheed -
- My father figure an Afghan man that noticed my head was down most of the times as if he knew the traumas that I was carrying as a child.   Hope. 

Refugee Life -
- In the 1980s, half of the world's refugee population were from Afghanistan, and our family was no different. We were lucky to have escaped the war and the suffering.  

Life in Pakistan -
- After escaping through the mountains from the Communists and the war, Pakistan became our new home.  We became war refugees once we crossed the border and faced a new life.
