In this episode, we are joined by Built Environment/Construction professional, Inezilona Maselino.

 

Inezilona was inspired to career change into the construction sector to help build more homes, affordable to the black community. So far, she has worked on innovative projects such as Crossrail, Battersea Power Station and HS2. She has a BSc (Hons) degree in Product Design from Nottingham Trent University.

Her lived experience of dyslexia and dyspraxia begun when, from a young age, she realised she was different. Inezilona uses her blended experiences including cultural spirituality, music, well-being, and creativity as life guidance, as well as to navigate various cultural, social, and generational spaces. As part of her voluntary work, Inezilona would like to help build the confidence and aspirations of black children/youth with dyslexia and dyspraxia.

Dyslexia: The Power of Acceptance

In this episode, we are joined by Isaac Verkaik, who was diagnosed with dyslexia at age 6.

 

Isaac works for the Cabinet Office as a policy advisor in the Modern Registration Division, part of Constitution Group. He graduated from the University of Bristol in 2019 with a first-class Biology Master’s degree, and he is currently undertaking a Master’s in Leadership and Management at Henley Business School.

Black Dyslexic: £1 Million Mobile Barbershop Franchise

In this episode, we are joined by dyslexic entrepreneur, Darren Tenkorang. 

 

Darren, awarded Brighton entrepreneur of the year in 2016, is the Founder and CEO of TRIM-IT UK’s tech-enabled mobile barbershop. 

 

He has raised over £1 million and currently operates a mobile barbershop franchise with his head office team of 11. The business currently services UK with plans to expand into the US in the next 18 months.

 

Darren was diagnosed with dyslexia in his third year of university.

Dyslexia: How to Excel

In this episode, we are joined by dyslexic entrepreneur Arran Smith. Arran was diagnosed with severe dyslexia at 9 years old, along with other tendencies of neurodiverse conditions.

 

During Arran’s working life he has worked in many industries including previously working at the British Dyslexia Association. Arran’s career has continued in the field of dyslexia with him now being the Managing Director of the SEND Group Ltd and Founder of the Dyslexia Show Ltd.

 

Arran has spoken at many schools, large conferences and events across the UK and at Dyslexia National conferences in India, Canada and the USA. With a special interest in technology, Arran uses Assistive Technology to support his dyslexia needs daily.

In this episode, we are joined by Gabi Preston Phypers, proud dyslexic, mother, wife, and owner of multiple businesses.

 

Gabi has been working in the world of start-ups since 2017, following 7 years’ experience in banking. In 2020, she joined the family business and has since been on a mission to make a difference by inspiring and educating people on how to be in the driving seat of their future.

 

She currently juggles various roles: at Oscar Harrington, her focus is on growing their mobile robotics recruitment agency; she runs ‘Own It With Gabi’, a career coaching business dedicated to helping people articulate their jazz hands on their CV; and she has recently set up Tooled Up Raccoons, providing software to help recruiters, in-house and agency, to find the right talent quicker.

 

Gabi enjoys working with people to empower them to get in the driving seat of their lives, and she strongly believes no one should ever be a passenger in their life journey.

Dyslexia and Memory Techniques

In this episode, we are joined by Fauzia Jan, B.Ed., PG Dip (Additional Learning Needs), ATS, AMBDA, AFHEA, M.Ed. 

 

With over 20 years of experience teaching in primary schools, Fauzia is a Reading Specialist and presently teaches as a Reading Recovery teacher in a primary school alongside lecturing at a local college in the Teacher Training Department. Throughout her career she has undertaken scholarly activity achieving AMBDA and ATS having recently completed a Master’s in Education, achieving a Distinction. In December 2020 she was invited to present her experiences at the All-Party Parliamentary Group – Dyslexia and SpLD where she recommended the need to involve and empower parents from all communities in understanding and supporting the needs of their children.  

 

She passionately believes that ‘Every Child is a Reader’ and should be provided with the support they require.

Dyslexia: Reading Resolved

In this episode, we are joined by Sakina Khan. Based in Canada, Sakina has over 15 years’ experience teaching and providing therapeutic tutoring to dyslexic students in Canada, Pakistan, and the USA.

 

She is the director and structured reading specialist at Reading Resolved, where she delivers structured, effective, and result-driven literacy tutoring that addresses all foundational elements critical for reading, writing and comprehension. She also works with individuals with other diverse needs, unique learning styles, or other underlying conditions such as anxiety, autism, ADD, ADHD or executive function disorder.

Dyslexia: thepower of multi-sensory learning

In this episode, we are joined by Paloma Forde, founder of Screening4Dyslexia, to speak on the topic of ‘Dyslexia: the power of multi-sensory learning’.

 

Paloma is passionate about supporting and detecting early signs of dyslexia so early intervention can begin. She has over 20 years of Special Educational Needs experience with a range of roles including advisor, teacher, SENCO, Learning Support Co-ordinator, and teacher trainer.


Paloma is the founder of Screening4Dyslexia, providing Dyslexia Screenings and other Educational Assessments throughout Surrey, South West London and online. She runs a 6-week mini-coaching course for kids as well as affordable webinars for professionals and parents so they can understand many different aspects of dyslexia and other areas of SEN.

Paloma has also recently written and published her e-book ‘Dynamic Dyslexia’ with her top 10 tips for supporting kids with dyslexia.
