Interview: Tracy Clark

35m · Published 31 Jan 12:00

Join me and my amazing guest, Tracy Clark, as we talk about her amazing book, Hide. We also talked about her creative process, her approach to story telling, and balancing viewpoints to ensure the story line is genuine.

We also chat about life in Chicago. How black Americans have been historically not gotten the recognition they richly deserve for their contributions to society. We also talk about an author organization of authors of color, by authors of color, which drew me in.

Come join us. It was an amazing interview with an amazing author.

Ask Yourself Why You Write

16m · Published 24 Jan 12:00

Here is the thing. We know what we write and how we write it. Have you ever stopped to consider why you write? No, well maybe you should.

A great teacher once told me that we will be 100% likely to fail if we do not stop to ask ourselves why we want to do anything. Today I ask you to stop and look under the hood and see what you find. It may not be as easy as you think.

What makes you want to write. Seriously consider the question.

  • Why Julius Caesar?
  • Why didn’t she just choose someone who spoke English?
  • What was the most fun to write?
  • How important was it for her to to know the places in the book?

Author Intereview: Nathaniel Warner

54m · Published 27 Dec 12:00

You are not going to want to miss a moment of this interview. I had an amazing discussion with Nate Warner about the craft of writing. He has a way of breaking it all down which I would love to bottle up and sell to all of you. Instead, here it is for the low price of free!

Nate and I talked about all kinds of great things. We talked about the book creation process, how to get involved in writing, the importance of having a good editor, and why you should not have to worry yourself if maybe you aren't the best at grammar.

Of course we are going to talk about his book series and what he has going on.

One of the things we talked about in the show was not only his very own website, but we also chatted at length about this really cool page he put together for budding authors. It is his own writing process as an example. While it is not a roadmap for everyone, I think it is a great starting point to help the budding author who wants some sort of direction.

He also has some examples of character sheets people can check out to give you some direction on how to put together your own.

Check out Nathaniel's website!

Do you want to take advantage of the special deal on training designed to put you in front of the microphone for audio book creation? Check it out here at Scott Ellis Reads Classroom!

Give the show a listen, you will be glad you did. Happy New Year and God bless.
