What If...? And Why Not? - with Jane Ferré, Career Coach for HR Professionals

1h 13m · Published 12 Dec 00:00

In this episode, I'm talking with Jane Ferré, a career coach for HR professionals – whether that's forging a career inside their current organisation or getting back on track after being made redundant.

Jane worked in HR and Training for major companies such as British Airways and Leon, until numerous internal restructures led to her being made redundant. After being unsuccessful in numerous job interviews, she realised that she didn't actually want to be employed and that, deep down, she'd always wanted to work for herself.

Amongst the things we discuss are such subjects as:

  • the importance of playing to your strengths instead of worrying about your weaknesses;
  • why businesses always cut costs in the wrong departments first; and
  • the immediate steps you should take if you are made redundant.

We also explore how we can now create our future careers, working when and how we want to. If you can imagine it, then why not find a way to do it?

Who Are We Really? - with Joseph Gerstel, CEO of Get Some Class

1h 3m · Published 28 Nov 09:00

In this episode, I'm talking with Joseph Gerstel, CEO of Get Some Class, which provides remote team-building events for lawyers, introducing fun and laughter into a high-pressured and intense environment.

Joseph started off as a lawyer himself and got to a point where he realised that he'd been forced down a route he didn't want to go down and wasn't enjoying himself. The enforced lockdown caused by the pandemic opened up an opportunity for Joseph to step into a new space and, what started as an experiment in his own firm, has now flourished into an International Business.

This is one of those great conversations where, in addition to his story and reflections on business, Joseph and I get into some very deep and philosophical concepts including topics such as:

  • how do you collaborate with others without risking your own identity?
  • the importance of getting comfortable with uncertainty; and
  • how tragedy is the underlying theme of the human condition and what to do about it.

We also explore the questions “Who are we really?” and “What is our place in a civilised society?”

Lonely in Paradise - with Sloane, champion of female empowerment

1h 9m · Published 14 Nov 09:00

In this episode, I'm talking with Sloane, a former business attorney who now devotes her time to guiding powerful women in fulfilling their highest potential.

After selling her law practice, Sloane found herself travelling the world with an amazing group of friends and living the lifestyle she'd always wanted. Suddenly,  she realised that despite being in paradise - inside she was really lonely.

In our conversation, we discuss some controversial concepts such as:

  • how developing a positive attitude and pushing through, isn't always the right answer; and
  • why getting clear on your vision and pursuing it, can be problematic.

On the flip side, you get to find out:

  • a better way of doing things; and
  • how to feel good even when things don't go to plan.

Creating great businesses that are fun to work at - with Rael Bricker, The Excellence Guy

1h 30m · Published 31 Oct 09:00

In this episode, I'm talking with Rael Bricker, international speaker, author and someone who works with business leaders to create rich and robust cultures - with measurable results.

Rael has had a portfolio career, including marketing, training, mergers and acquisitions and venture capitalism. Born in South Africa, now living in Western Australia, Rael's career started out as a junior engineer at an international mining house where the rigid hierarchical nature of the company automatically created division amongst the workforce.

However, a single, notable event on a works trip turned everything on its head for Rael and sparked his interest in organisational culture.

In our conversation, we talk about such subjects as:

  • How culture is a combination of ethics, values, people and communication
  • how people can get it so right and, at the same time, so wrong; and
  • maintaining that culture when everyone is working from home.

It's also interesting to note how the most successful and confident of people can still suffer from imposter syndrome.

In this episode, I'm talking with James Owen Roberts who is an Amputee Empowerment Coach.

James is a TEDx speaker, and author and has represented his country at 4 World Championships and in 2 Paralympics.

- his journey through sport, representing his country in three different disciplines; and

A Company That Works Without You - with Dancho Dimkov, lead generation specialist

1h 32m · Published 04 Jul 08:00

In this episode, I'm talking with Dancho Dimkov, a serial entrepreneur, founder of lead generation company BizzBee Solutions and author of the book Sweet Leads.

Dancho set up his first business at the age of 21. Like many of us, much of his early success came from hard graft and using every hour that was available. However, as other factors became more important – you know, life and all that – he realised that he had to create a company that was able to perform without him being there.

In this podcast, Dancho shares exactly what he did to build such a business as well as the mistakes he made along the way. This is invaluable stuff for anyone who wants to actually own a business and not just be an employee in their own company.

In addition, we discuss subjects such as:

  • why it's essential that you give yourself permission to make mistakes;
  • a simple methodology around making tough decisions; and
  • the importance of selling a solution, not a product or service.

At the heart of it all, marketing is really about having great conversations.
