Canned Air #494 A Conversation with Brian Levant (Happy Days, The Flintstones, Jingle All The Way)

1h 34m · Published 04 Jul 01:00
He was a writer on Happy Days, Mork & Mindy, The Jeffersons, and Still The Beaver. He directed movies like Beethoven, Snow Dogs, The Spy Next Door, Are We There Yet?, and many more. But he’s probably best known for directing The Flintstones movies and Jingle All The Way. And not only did he direct Jingle All The Way, he oversaw the creation of Turbo Man! Writer, director, and author Brian Levant joins us this week to talk about his early interest in the entertainment business, how he came to write for some of the most iconic television shows ever made, working on The Flintstones, designing Turbo Man, and his book, My Life And Toys. My Life And Toys is an original book of photographs and text by the noted director/writer/producer Brian Levant, presenting his extraordinary collection of animated feature and comic toys, including hundreds of iconic characters represented in figures, banks, games, lunchboxes, puppets, comics, windups, vehicles and items at the bottom of cereal boxes. This comprehensive and one-of-a-kind collection and book/work, itself, is presented in varied chapters. There are chapters here that include the author’s Flintstones collection; others created while he produced features with Steven Spielberg; or those acquired while producing classic TV shows, like Mork & Mindy. And this is just a small sampling of what is in this exhaustive book, where the sum total has been acquired over the past 50 years. This is a book distinctive in its content; in both words and the hundreds of original photographs created exclusively for it. Brian’s acclaim and success as a producer of popular culture film and television features allows presentation here of a distinctly individual and personal yet universally interesting book for collectors and the general public alike. Canned Air #487 The Comics of John Yuskaitis

1h 24m · Published 15 May 11:00
Comic creator John Yuskaitis returns this week to first help us look at some of the different aliens and UFOs from throughout pop culture in our Retro Roundtable! We look at films like "Independence Day", "Close Encounters of The Third Kind", "Mars Attacks", and more. Let us know your picks in the comments! Then we turn our attention to John to talk about his comics, “The Masked Bug and “Boots and Pup”. The Masked Bug began as a comic idea John spent the better half of the 1990s creating after college. An idea squarely planted in comics of yesteryear, where the heroes and villains were clearly defined and the stories had a campy edge to them!  Set against a backdrop of intergalactic worlds and strange creatures, Boots and Pup chronicles the lives of an extraterrestrial odd couple. Out of balance in their personal lives, Boots and Pup manage to keep a steady but erratic orbit around each other! Find out more about John and his work at BootsandPup.com and on Instagram at the handles below! @BootsandPup @TheMaskedBug CannedAirPodcast.com Twitter: @CannedAirPod Instagram: @Canned_Air If you’d like to show your support, you can either visit our Patreon page at Patreon.com/CannedAirPod or you can leave us a review on iTunes!
