EP. 20 | Live a Great Story | Zach Horvath (Live at Eazy's)

1h 4m · Published 11 Oct 18:00
LIVE A GREAT STORY • Simple words. Such diversity in what these words mean from person to person. Zach Horvath joined me in Episode 20 live from Eazy’s Listening Room & Studio. Zach developed his brand, Live a Great Story, after going out one night with a can of red spray paint, and spraying the words on a pillar over Town Lake underneath Mopac Bridge. People began taking pictures and sharing these simple words. Zach decided to roll with it, and create a logo that can now be spotted all over the world. • In this podcast we dove right into Zach’s story, and talked about how good it is for our minds to travel. What traveling gave us, opening our minds, and the insights we gained from being exposed todifferent people's perspectives around the world. What happened next exceeded all of Zach and I’s expectations of what would transpire. We asked several individuals to share what they had written, but everyone shared in such an authentic capacity that we couldn’t stop. Everyone that joined us that night got the opportunity to share, and we selected a few of the best to feature on this podcast. • As usual the microphone was passed around the room, and 40-50 people all shared the moment they were most proud of in their lives. It was beautiful that a bunch of strangers could interact in this way, and feel safe enough to be as vulnerable as every one was. It is a moment I will never forget, and showed us the possibility of what we had created. Listen to people share from their hearts, listen to the diversity in what they are proud of, and think about how it differs from what you yourself are proud of. I felt something shift inside of me when this was happening, and is a feeling I will seek time and time again. Thank you to everyone that made it out for this episode. It was truly special to share. • We decided to hand out cards as people walked in to the studio, and gave them the opportunity to fill out the following: “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”- Howard Thurman Before you jump into the evening, take a second to reflect on what accomplishment has made you feel truly alive. Big or small, internal or external. A part of your journey you'll remember for your whole life. Write it here:_________________________________________________________________________ Now grab a drink, meet some new people and instead of the usual questions you ask strangers, dive a little deeper into the important parts of life... theirs and yourself. Ask meaningful questions, listen, tune in. Thank you, Anonymous P.S. Be prepared, we might pass you the mic to expand more on your aliveness. • Guest: @commonvandal Businesses: @liveagreatstory • Bringing the conversation of community & culture to Austin, TX. EP. 19 | MiMU Gloves (Tech) | Josh Draper

1h 11m · Published 13 Sep 07:00
We opened our doors to our brand new studio, Eazy’s Listening Room & Studio, located at Austin’s one & only Native Hostel. This studio was crafted to highlight the stories, passions, and pursuits of those in Austin, Texas. There are people flocking to this city hoping to contribute, but it is also a very pivotal time in our city to highlight a culture that has existed for quite some time. • In this new series, at the SpeakEazy, we are keeping our featured guest anonymous until people walk into the studio. With this concept we are able to expose people to perspectives, and industries they wouldn’t ordinarily seek out. We aren’t selling out this room based on people's interest, but instead on the concept that whatever is in this room is shaping Austin as a whole. So we begin… • I first saw the technology that Josh Draper was using on a friend's instagram story. He was showcasing the Mi.Mu Gloves in a mutual friend's living room. I knew at first glance that it was something special, so I asked him to come by the studio to learn more. I decided Josh would be a perfect fit for the SpeakEAZY. Austin is quickly establishing itself as one of the quickest growing tech leaders in the world. Beyond the amount of corporations that are flooding here. I like to see how individuals are driving this forward themselves. The tech world was an industry I hadn’t quite tapped into yet here in Austin with the podcast, and is very important to highlight as it is shaping our culture in massive ways. • Josh performed several different types of songs he had programmed utilizing the Mi.Mu Gloves as people walked into the room. Showing a wide range of what these gloves could do. Like most people the first time they saw the gloves, the energy in the room left one question in people's minds, “what the f*ck are those and how do they work?”. In this episode you will hear Josh's story about how he came across the gloves himself at SXSW here in Austin, what these gloves gave him during “the 2020 experience”, and also how they are being used to innovate around the world. • There is a wide range of how these gloves can and will be used. I am excited to see how these gloves change the world, and I am even more proud that a very special group of people saw it first here at Eazy’s first. Join us next week to see who we feature next! We hope to continue to inspire, open peoples minds, and give people a little more room to… listen. One love. • Guest: @truejoshdraper Tech: @mi.mu.gloves • Bringing the conversation of community & culture to Austin, TX. EP. 18 | I Climbed My Way Out of Hell | Best Selling Author Khalil Rafati (Live at Aviator Nation)

1h 25m · Published 20 Jul 22:00
“I employ 300 people today. I’ve written a best selling book. I have traveled the world. I have lived a life beyond 10 lifetimes of my wildest wildest dreams, & guys… I am just getting warmed up.” - Khalil Rafati • Khalil Rafati joined me live from Aviator Nation in the heart of Austin, TX. Khalil is an incredible individual, & it was such a pleasure to talk to him. Khalil was a drug addict before turning his life around in his mid thirties. Khalil now is the owner of Sunlife Organics & several other successful companies. Khalil says he had to climb his way out of hell to be the man that he is today, & we are so glad that he is here. • Pain shapes us in ways that we can not deny. Instead of shying away we have an opportunity to lean in, discover more of ourselves, & ask ourselves how we can put such impactful lessons to good use. We have to take the time to ask ourselves how we can we use these experiences to help others. • Guest: @khalilrafati Businesses: @sunlifeorganics @malibubeachyoga • Bringing the conversation of community & culture to Austin, TX. EP. 17 | Warrior Poet | Erick Godsey

1h 14m · Published 29 Jun 12:00
Erick Godsey joined me for Episode 17 live at Native Hostel. We discussed our role in a modern world. This dance to find balance between love & fear. Showing up in the world as a warrior, but finding balance by pursuing the path of the poet. • It is important that we explore our potential in this lifetime. We do so through learning, listening, & sharing it with others. Community is the key to expansion. We continue to grow by letting go of our attachment to the past, moving forward with compassion, and humility in our hearts. Erick does this well, because he has put in the time. He is willing to observe his ego in action, set it aside when necessary, and inspire through the lost art of storytelling. It was a pleasure to drop in with you Erick, & I hope everyone finds as much value in this conversation as I did! EP. 16 | Black Art Weekend | Steve Hatchett

49m · Published 22 Jun 14:45
In this interview with Steve Hatchett for Of Color we discussed an event that happened over this past weekend at Native Hostel. Black Art Weekend was a celebration & gallery focused on African American Artists here in Austin, TX. Austin does not have a huge African American population, which makes it even more important for their culture to have a place here, and for their heritage to be celebrated. • Steve & I sat down on Juneteenth to talk about the importance of introducing perspectives different from your own, pushing the boundaries of what may typically be avoided conversationally, and appreciating our differences with respect in our hearts. This is how we all grow.• Although Steve & I grew up differently, Steve being from Chicago & I from a small town outside Austin, we were able to find common ground. That common ground is the place I call home, ATX, & I can tell we are both on a mission to make this city better in our own unique ways.• In this conversation I realized that we show up in the world in a lot of the same ways, & I think we all have the potential to interact this way. Thank you for joining me Steve, & I look forward to playing a part in this important conversation. • Guest: @hatchettsteveOrganization: @_ofcoloratxFounders: @gorudi @abcbodyartCreative Director: @tobartakeover• Bringing the conversation of community & culture to Austin, TX.• Own your space. • Please give us a RATING & REVIEW if you enjoyed the episode & be sure to SUBSCRIBE! EP. 15 | Going On Tour | Zach Person

54m · Published 14 Jun 16:45
Hear an exclusive interview with Zach Person. Live from Native Hostel we talk about how he was brought up, what has inspired him, & what’s on the horizon of rock ‘n’ roll as he prepares to go on tour around the world this summer! Zach’s character & humility shined through as we dove into his journey, and his passion continuing to be on the cutting edge of innovation in the music industry.• We talked about the history of music that has inspired such a diverse style, productivity throughout quarantine finishing his latest album, and how much gratitude is in the air with shows rolling back into town. I look forward to watching Zach’s success, and could not be prouder of him representing Austin, TX. Shoutout to Zach’s team for making this interview happen, and thank you Zach for sharing the room with me. EP. 14 | ATX Concert Queen | Clarissa Cardenas

1h 21m · Published 08 Jun 14:00
Thank you to Clarissa Cardenas for joining me this weekend for Episode 14. It was a blast! • Clarissa is an amazing example of how business should be done here in ATX. This game isn’t all about followers, likes, & comments. Our word & reputation means the world to us. Keep doing your thing! It’s about to be an amazing summer! • The problem with social media is that often people say one thing, & then act another. After talking to Clarissa I got a sense that her reputation is important to her, & that sense of responsibility is heavy in this game. At least it should be... If you have a platform, & you are actively using it to “influence”. It’s time that we step into that sense of responsibility & make sure that we provide our local community #atx a quality product.• It’s very important to be real, so that our city remains genuine, authentic, & free.Follow Clarissa on Instagram: @atxconcertqueen or visit https://www.atxconcertqueen.com/ • Bringing the conversation of community & culture to Austin, TX. EP. 13 | The House of Impermanence | Steve Yang

1h 13m · Published 02 Jun 13:00
Stay tuned for Episode 13 with Steve Yang dropping this week. We broke down what led us to this point, seeking out a more suitable path for creativity, collaboration, & expression. Both of us being veterans it was fun to shoot the sh*t over Memorial Day Weekend, share some funny stories from our time in the service, & talk about what we see on the horizon.• Everybody keep an eye out for what’s coming! This is Austin, Texas. We are resilient, we have a backbone in this town, it’s how we were raised. I welcome all creatives & optimists to this city, but I’ll make a stand to make sure the culture never dies. The good thing is... I’m not alone. It’s going to take all of us, & we’re going to have a damn good time doing it! • @artbomb.xyz @warriorxcreations @cosmotionevents @theorijins • Bringing the conversation of community & culture to Austin, TX. EP. 12 | Mesmerize | Clay Lillard & Mateo Gutierrez

1h 5m · Published 27 May 07:00
I interviewed the founders of Austin’s very own interactive art space known as Mesmerize. We talked about their journey to opening their doors, amidst the pandemic, and what they learned along the way. This was a more important time than ever for people to have somewhere to go to let their minds explore. Building Mesmerize also gave Clay & Mateo somewhere to focus their energy and the product is truly remarkable. Clay & Mateo have done an amazing job at figuring out the solutions to making it work, and also adapting to create a safe place for people to go instead of just waiting. • This partnership is made up of two childhood friends that reconnected after years in the music & production industries. When they teamed up with Native Hostel to display art installations for their parties, they decided to find a way to scale in order to share this with more people, and make it sustainable. Now in 2021 they have some big plans. Keep an eye out for what these guys bring to this city!@thisismesmerize @teostimetravel @mesmerize_clay • Bringing the conversation of community & culture to Austin, TX. EP. 11 | Fotohouse | Daniel Nguyen, Chisum Pierce, & Dr. Marlene Carson

47m · Published 24 May 07:00
Interview #1: Live podcast from Fotohouse’s new space here in Austin, TX. I interviewed Daniel Nguyen & Chisum Pierce. We talked about their journey to becoming prominent photographers & opening a one of a kind studio here in town. What they are doing with this space, although it is a state of the art studio, extends far beyond photography. They are using this space to create a safe & professional environment. They are trying to bridge the gap between all different types of industries, and this night showcased that. She describes herself as a SurThriver of human sex trafficking. She is originally from Columbus, Ohio. She has now come to Texas in order to spread awareness of sex trafficking, and offer help to victims. The true magic of her work is in empowerment. Her organization, Switch Anti-Trafficking Network, is showing young women with all different levels of trauma that people care about them, and try to provide them a path to education & entrepreneurship. It was an honor to sit across from this beautiful woman, and talk about such an important topic. If you would like to learn more about our role & how you can contribute please refer to the links posted below! It is very important that we step up and help.
