Can you say "I love my job" in the middle of a pandemic?

In this episode of the Get More Math podcast, Josh chats with Rita Sponenburg about how after 18 years of teaching math, the pandemic finally forced her to switch to a flipped classroom.  That coupled with Get More Math,  Rita is able to wake up each morning and reflect on how much she loves her job, not an easy thing to do in the middle of a pandemic.   Now that she’s adjusted, she says there’s no going back.

Rita has been teaching high school math,  at Pottsville Area High School (her alma mater) for almost 18 years. She started using GMM about 4 years ago when it was introduced to Pottsville.  Rita has two “sensational daughters: a 28-year-old chemist who lives in Chicago and works for a Northwestern University laboratory, and a 20-year-old free-spirited yoga teacher who is quite grounded and deeply insightful.”

Christa Oeder is in her 11th year as a teacher and in her 4th year using GMM. Originally from Ohio, she currently lives in Johnson City, TN. She has enjoyed teaching high school math courses throughout the years, including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Precalculus. Her current focus is in Algebra 2.

Erika Hale was born and raised in West Virginia but went to high school in Illinois before eventually settling in Gray, TN.  She has been teaching for 5 years and has been using GMM for 3. She is married with 3 kids, 6 cats, and a dog. Yes, you read that correctly, 6 cats.
