Our CEO, Griselda Togobo, recently had a fantastic conversation with Dr. Margaret Korosec, the lead at the University of Leeds' Online and Digital Education Department, who shared pearls of wisdom and her candid experiences, highlighting the importance of pursuing one's passions and the significance of not letting setbacks define one's path. Margaret's journey is one of remarkable resilience and personal growth amidst it all. For Margaret, it's not just about reaching the top but doing so with inner strength and the knowledge that she's staying true to herself and her values.

Margaret Korosec is the Dean of Online and Digital Education at the University of Leeds, leading on establishing a design ecosystem to support and scale online education and a digitally enabled student experience. She has recently led the development of Helix, a creative space to encourage experimentation and enable radical internal and external collaboration.

She became a single mother while pursuing a career in fashion modelling. Her fashion career abruptly ended on her impending motherhood, driving her to find a new way to provide for herself and her son.

Meet Julianne Antrobus, a Leading Woman in Nuclear Energy and a Forward Ladies Awards Alumni.

From a young age, Julianne had a real curiosity about the world around her. This thirst for knowledge, and a passion for environmental science and technology, would eventually lead her to a career in nuclear energy. As a young graduate, Julianne found herself fielding two job offers. One was as a consultant with a consultancy firm. The other opportunity was an offer to join a large blue chip company named British Nuclear Fuels. While considering which path to pursue, a friend questioned how she could take on a consultancy role without any real world experience post-university. Taking those words to heart, she decided to take the job with British Nuclear Fuels to gain the experience she knew she was lacking.

How do you go from not being considered "management material" to running a $34 billion business? What does it take to succeed in the male-dominated world of aerospace and defence?

Leanne didn't dream of taking to the skies in a spaceship as a child, but it's undeniable that aerospace is in her blood. Three decades ago, her parents worked on the Apollo mission; today, Leanne worked on Artemis, the sister rocket to Apollo, which will place the first woman on the moon in a new era of human space exploration.

About Leanne Caret Leanne Caret is a Retired Executive Vice President, The Boeing Company and CEO, Boeing Defense, Space and Security. Leanne is a major force in global business. In 2021, Fortune Magazine named Leanne to its Most Powerful Women list for the fifth consecutive year.  In addition to being a 2019 inductee of the Women in Aviation International Pioneer Hall of Fame, Leanne is a Royal Aeronautical Society Fellow and an Aeronautics and Astronautics Associate Fellow.

Mamokgethi Phakeng is a Professor of Mathematics Education and Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Town. She holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University of the Witwatersrand. She has published over 80 reviewed articles and five edited volumes. She is a B1 NRF-rated scientist, which indicates she has considerable international recognition. She has been invited as a speaker and visiting professor at international conferences and universities worldwide.

She has won several awards for her research and community work, including the Order of Baobab (Silver) bestowed upon her by the President of South Africa in April 2016 and the CEO magazine's most influential woman in academia in Africa in 2015. Mamokgethi has served and continues to serve on several notable boards in South Africa and Africa.

Sophie Adelman is the Cofounder & CEO of The Garden, a seed stage venture-backed startup building a Community for the Curious.  The Garden brings together people who love to learn for the joy of learning with passionate experts and with each other for Garden Talks & Conversation Circles. Ekaterina received her medical degree from St Petersburg Medical Academy  in St Petersburg, Russia, and then moved to the US where she completed  her Internal Medicine residency training.  She worked in private practice, academic medicine and public health for  more than 15 years in the greater New York area. She was a Clinical  Instructor of Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, as well as a  Research Professor at City University of New York. 

After moving to London in 2011, Ekaterina worked in global health and  medical philanthropy, focusing on improving outcomes in maternal and  child health.  She founded COMPASS Pathways with her husband George Goldsmith in 2016,  having experienced at first hand the challenges in accessing  evidence-based and effective mental health care for a family member. In this episode of the leadership podcast, Griselda engaged Ekatarina  Malievskaia, Co-Founder of Compass Pathways, on starting a mental health  care company that is taking the world of mental health care by storm.
