The 3 Major Causes of Stress and Anxiety

18m · Published 25 Jan 12:38

In this episode of The Mind Melt Podcast I talk about how our world has created a generation of chronically stressed people. It seems like we are always feeling some feelings of stress or anxiety, and that the problems in the world, and in our lives keep piling up. One of the major causes of a lot of stress and anxiety is burnout at our jobs. Since the Pandemic it has been a challenge for all of us to find a work life balance, and to create the best schedules for our mental health. Many of us feel drained, or ready to give up or give into our bad habits caused by stress. Maybe you tend to over eat or binge watch your favorite show when you get stressed, but the truth is these unhealthy coping mechanisms just lead to more stress down the line.

Instead if we can focus on doing things in our free time that give us energy and make us feel fulfilled we will be better off. Whether this be spending time with your kids, playing an instrument, working on a business or a passion, or doing self work. In the next episode we will talk about how to deal with stress and eliminate some of the triggers in our lives that are causing the most stress.

How to Get Out of Toxic Relationships

19m · Published 16 Jan 17:21

In this episode I talk about how toxic and negative relationships impact our life. When we have toxic people in our life they often don't want to support our goals, aspirations, and dreams. They want to keep us right where we are because it feels safer to them. With people who don't support us or our way of life it can be difficult to create and serve others at a high level. When we constantly feel drained of our energy, or have to pretend to be someone we are not it can be difficult to change much of anything.

There is a famous quote that says "Show me your three closest friends and I'll show you your future". I think this quote is so true beause we as humans are easily influenced by the people we surround ourselves with. When we surround ourselves with motivated and driven people working towards goals, we will become a better person in the process. This is why for our own personal growth and development we must let go of our toxic relationships, heal from the trauma they caused us, and focus on nurturing and developing healthy relationships that move us forward in life.

The Power of Deep Relationships for Personal Growth and How to Build Stronger Relationships

22m · Published 13 Jan 03:09

One of the biggest parts of our lives is our relationships and the people we surround ourselves with. If you want to live the best possible life you can, why would you not want to build the best relationships you can. Many people complain about how they don't like their relationships and how they want to improve them. What they don't realize is in order to build the best possible relationships they can this must be a top priority in their life. The truth is it takes a lot of time and effort to strengthen a relationship and it isn't always a linear path. Like everything else in life there are ups and downs, but if you keep on showing up consistently for the people in your life these relationships are bound to get better.

In order to build better relationships it comes down to a couple of simple but difficult things. The first is you have to realize the negative patterns of your relationship. What do I do and what do they do that is painful or hurting us. Once you can determine your patterns through consistent effort you can overcome them. Next you want to focus on being a good listener and truly hearing the other person. We often do selective listening where we listen in order to form our next point in our own head. Another key to developing better relationships is the ability to open up about your feelings and get vulnerable. If you can do this your relationship will become more open and honest, exactly what you want.

Meena Cuniffe Overcoming Judgement and Stereotypes by Finding Your True Identity

1h 0m · Published 10 Jan 12:46

In this episode my guest Meena Cuniffe and I talk about how she is often cast as the racially ambiguous mother figure in her high school plays, and how she deals with being put in a stereotype. She talks about how it isn't a good feeling to be put into a stereotypical role, and sometimes it can feel uncomfortable for those involved. She hopes to open more dialogues in her theatre department about diversity, race, and finding ways to tell more worldly stories through musical theatre.

Meena is an Indian woman and she shares with us how it can often be hard to find her identity when many people around her perceive her as many different backgrounds such as Latinx. While she may not have one strong identity she stresses the importance of learning about other places so we don't fall back on our stereotypes because of lack of knowledge.

While she is often judged into fitting a certain role Meena does mention that she doesn't always mind being Type Casted. She sees the roles that she plays as a place she can succeed in and tap into her strengths. While she may not always feel the best about it no matter what role she's in she always plays it to the best of her ability with a strong sense of self, and a heart of gold.

The Mindset Behind Our Habits

16m · Published 03 Jan 13:07

Welcome back to the Mind Melt Podcast. Today is our first episode of 2022 and we thought it was appropriate to start our series on developing good habits. We wanted to start out this series by talking about the psychology and mindset that creates our habits in the first place. Our habits are formed by repeating patterns called habit loops which always end in some sort of reward. A habit loop consists of 3 things a cue/trigger, the routine (actual habit), and the reward that follows. What keeps us going back to that Netflix show, those bad foods, smoking, drinking alcohol and many other bad habits is the reward. The reward is what our brain remembers so even if the behavior is not in our best interest our brain believes it is good for us.

On the next episodes we will cover how to break yourself out of the habit loop and break some of your bad habits early on in this new year. We will also teach you the importance of good habits and the benefits they provide for your life.
