Ep 6: Jessica Holmes on Mental Health, Use Tech to Declutter Paper and Don’t Interview For Pain

33m · Published 01 Nov 01:00
Jessica Holmes (comedian/actress/writer/mental health advocate) is my special guest, I share how I use tech to declutter paper (for me and the kids) and why you shouldn't interview for pain.     In addition to sharing her experience with depression (including her totally underwhelmed reaction to being asked to emcee for Oprah and how she talks about mental health with her kids) Jessica and I also discuss our shared self-identification as introverts, whether she ever regrets being so open about her life, and the fan-favourite impressions she does onstage and onscreen. (She even gives us a couple of little samples!) Jessica Holmes website, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. More information or purchase Jessica's book Depression: The Comedy here. It's a jam-packed episode!     Important links: The Home For Unwanted Girls by Joanna Goodman FabFitFun (I do get rewarded if you order through this link, you can save $10 off your first box with code Fab10) Lisa Orr/Orr Etiquette: Website, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram  **** Now, here's where I open up to you a bit. I am finding podcasting a challenge as a perfectionist, but I am forcing myself to go with one take as much as possible (unless I say something completely incorrect which must be fixed). While my my amazing podcast editor Lukas Wojcicki works hard on the sound, you are getting a very unedited host; I make some point-form notes and use them as a springboard to talk freely. That said, after every recording I think of things I should have said, like "we used signs with pictures of the breakfast items when the girls were younger to help them remember", and "obviously the subscription box tip doesn't work with boxes that have one main item, or items that are based on something like clothing size, but it would work for many"...but I don't want to do take after take, because I don't think it gives the most authentic version of me, nor is it a healthy practice (or feasible in the time I have available). Based on the feedback I've received, I think you listeners are okay with that, and I love you even more for it! Just a reminder that it's super helpful to me if you subscribe, rate, review, share, etc., wherever you listen to This Mom Loves. Thank you!!!
