More Than An MD

Dr. Daniel Indorato was born and raised in a suburb outside of Boston, and graduated college with a B.S. degree in medical sciences at The University of Tampa. During his undergraduate years, Daniel travelled throughout Europe and South America, as well as volunteering on three international medical mission trips. After college, he attended medical school at American University of Antigua in the Caribbean, where he graduated this past winter. Now, Daniel is pursuing a residency in Anesthesiology at Cook County in Chicago, IL. Following his residency training, he is planning to do an Interventional Spine and Pain Medicine Fellowship and start his own private practice while pursuing his dream of starting a non-profit international medical relief organization.

Dr. Renée Rodriguez Paro is a pediatric cardiologist in the Bay area who attended medical school at the University of Chicago, and then completed residency at Stanford. However, Renée wears many different hats, and when she’s not in clinic; Renée is a mom, a fitness enthusiast, wife, proud Latina, friend, podcaster, leader and inspiration to all.

In this episode, Tyler discusses his experience as a first generation pre-medical student, facing rejection from 19 medical schools, working during college and so much more. Tyler started his journey at a local community college while working three jobs to pay for his tuition in full. After two years, Tyler transferred to the University of Illinois at Chicago where he obtained a degree in neuroscience from UIC Honors College in 2019. During his time at UIC, he served as the President of the Society of Future Physicians and was heavily involved in research at the UIC College of Medicine in the Department of Neurology.  In addition to his research, Tyler dedicates a lot of time to sharing his experiences through the pre-med journey on Instagram and Youtube, and you can find him at @futuredoctortyler. 

In this episode, Kelly discusses her experience as a current third year medical student in Arizona. As an undergraduate, she attended UCLA and is originally from Los Angeles, CA. After graduating, she took two gap years where she worked as a scribe and medical assistant while studying for the MCAT. Kelly is currently rotating through all of the specialties but is leaning towards Psychiatry as she enters her fourth year. Outside of medical school, she enjoys running her Instagram account @heykellyellen where she talks about common premed topics, such as personal statements and the application cycle. 

Aurelio “Al" Muzaurieta is a second year medical student at the University of Michigan. He graduated from Harvard College in 2017 where he majored in Romance Languages and Literatures and minored in Global Health Policy, Latin American Studies, and Mandarin Chinese. Al is of Cuban heritage and is passionate about languages. He is fluent in Spanish, French, Portuguese and Mandarin.

In this episode, Dr. Erin Alpert-Rathauser dives into post-bacc study, gap years, advice for pre-meds, how to choose a speciality, what it was like to be a resident during the pandemic, her work with The Resident Optimist, her experiences as a wife, sister, friend, doctor and so much more. 

Erin graduated from Brown University with honors in Psychology in 2011 and completed a post-baccalaureate certificate in pre-medical sciences at Columbia University in May 2013. She then worked as a research associate at the Thyroid Head and Neck Cancer (THANC) Foundation until May 2014.  After leaving THANC, she went on to study medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, graduating in 2018. Erin is now in her final year of residency training in pediatrics at NYU Langone Health & Bellevue Hospital Center.

Zach is a CrossFit coach, co-founder of a non-profit called Cope, co-host of a podcast and a fourth-year medical student at the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He recently matched at UC Davis to pursue his residency in Family Medicine.
