Translation:

The Russian space program has a long and rich history dating back to the times of the USSR. The main Soviet achievements include, of course, launching the first satellite and sending the first human, Yuri Gagarin, into space. The program also played a significant role in the Cold War space race with the United States.

In recent years, the Russian space program has continued to operate and achieve successes. It has launched numerous satellites and spacecraft, including the Soyuz spacecraft. Russia also operates its own space station, "Mir," and has plans for future manned missions to the Moon.

Here are some Russian records:

  • The longest spaceflight was conducted by Valery Polyakov on the "Mir" station, which lasted 437 days, 17 hours, 58 minutes, and 17 seconds.
  • The record for the total time spent in orbit belongs to Gennady Padalka, totaling 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes, and 36 seconds; it was registered by the International Aeronautical Federation (FAI) in September 2015.
  • Cosmonaut Anatoly Solovyev conducted 16 spacewalks, spending a total of 78 hours and 48 minutes in open space.

we would never have known
these happy days.
The little ones wouldn’t be circling
around the snow woman,
The ski track wouldn’t be winding,
If only, if only, if only...

If only it weren’t winter,
And all the time it’s summer,
We wouldn’t know this New Year’s chaos,
Santa Claus wouldn’t rush to us through the potholes,
The ice on the river wouldn’t freeze
If only, if only, if only...

Here is the transcript:

Translation:

The Cold War was a period of political and military tension between the Western powers, led by the United States, and the Eastern powers, led by the Soviet Union. It lasted from the end of World War II to the early 1990s. The Soviet Union played a central role in shaping the political and military landscape of the time.

During the Cold War, the Soviet Union and the United States engaged in a nuclear arms race, as well as a competition for influence in various countries around the world. This competition often took the form of proxy wars. For example, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Soviet-Afghan War.

In retrospect, the Cold War had a profound impact on the world, shaping global politics and shaping the international system in ways that are still felt today. The end of the Cold War marked the end of the bipolar world and the emergence of a new era of international relations.

102 – You are the only one I loved

27m · Published 10 Nov 08:34

Today we talk about one of my favorite poems by Dmitry Bykov. Enjoy! And make sure to listen till the end, there's a normal narrator reading the poem:)

Here is the text:

Translation:

Well in truth you're the only one that I've loved
My ideal that stands no comparison
In all of my women, I'm looking for you now
And that's what's helped me make peace with them

And while you indulge in your passion for arts
Taking trips from Orsay to Museo del Prado
One might say I've assembled you from small parts
I know how it sounds. That's the truth. I won't lie, you know.

Her nose turns up at the end
While Her back has got the same birthmark
One of them thinks the world of herself, another — of me
But no match made in heaven, no love spark

One will blow a strand of hair from her face,
One puts her keys God knows where
That I failed to encounter all that in one place
Is due to God being cautious in avoiding same errors.

And even your soul that I've only reached thrice, through all of that stymieing
It stayed Right here with me, in flowers that'll bloom in a trice
And old broken phones that aren't dialing

To think you were worried that I'd be all alone
Feeling bad for myself — for good reason
But those rains, prices, bombs or the press from back home,
Why, you've never left me, my love, and you fill every season.

101 – Russian music

31m · Published 11 Oct 17:35

Hey everyone! I hope everyhting is fine:)

Today we talk about Russian music. This episode is quite challenging but interesting.

Here is the text:

Translation:

Russian music encompasses a diverse range of styles and genres, from traditional folk music to classical compositions. Folk music is characterized by its use of the balalaika and the domra, traditional Russian string instruments. Folk songs often tell stories about daily life, love, and nature.

Classical music has a rich history in Russia, with famous composers such as Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Sergei Rachmaninoff, both of whom wrote works that are still performed today all over the world. These composers, along with Dmitry Shostakovich, Igor Stravinsky, and Sergei Prokofiev, helped establish Russia as a center for classical music. Their works are considered some of the finest examples of classical music in the world, and are still performed in concert halls and opera houses in many countries.

In recent years, Russian music has also seen the emergence of new genres, such as rock, pop, and hip-hop. These genres have gained popularity among young people and have created new opportunities for musicians to showcase their talents. Additionally, modern technologies like the internet and streaming platforms have made it easier for Russian musicians to reach a global audience.

Overall, Russian music is a rich and diverse field that spans from traditional folk songs to the most advanced classical compositions, reflecting the country's cultural heritage, its historical and political context, and the artistic creativity of its people.

100 – Why I love Russian

17m · Published 10 Jul 20:12

Russian language is incredibly beautiful, thank you so much for learning it with me :)

Here is the test in Russian and English.

Translation:

There are numerous reasons why I find myself in love with the Russian language.

Here are a few of them:

First and foremost, the beauty of Russian lies in its melodic and expressive nature. Each word seems to possess a rhythmic quality as if it were a lyrical composition. The way the language rolls off the tongue and the passionate intonations it allows for make it a delight to listen to and speak.

Moreover, Russian literature is renowned for its depth and complexity, and by learning the language, I am able to immerse myself in the works of Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Pushkin in their original form. The Russian language opens the doors to a literary world that is vast, profound, and filled with profound emotions and philosophical musings.

Additionally, the Russian language offers a fascinating glimpse into a vibrant and diverse culture. It allows me to connect with the people, understand their history, and appreciate their traditions.
