This Is Women

by Maddy Herie

Welcome to This Is Women, a podcast for women and/or womb carriers about celebrating and honouring our divine feminine essence and exploring what it means to wom(b)en together. At This Is Women we step into our power and explore taboo topics surrounding the female form and spirit with love, an open heart, and a desire to cultivate a deeper connection with our mind, body, and soul. We cover topics from sex, to spirituality, sacred menstruation, connecting to our womb wisdom, self-pleasure, and holistic health.

Women's Representation in Art and the Male Gaze with Gabby Marcuzzi

1h 24m · Published 19 Jan 15:42

Today on the pod we have Gabby who shares her knowledge on female representation in art throughout history. Gabby is so passionate and truly so well versed in all areas of art that she studies.

She has her BA Honors in Art History and is currently a student in Museum Studies. Her areas of expertise are modern and contemporary art, art and viewer engagement that includes how people relate to artwork, and how art evokes intense affects from the viewer… which she says is fitting in relationship to feminist art because often, this kind of art does evoke such a strong reaction from it’s audience.

I am so grateful that I got to record our conversation for the first official episode of This Is Women. On the podcast we talk about:

  • the socialization of women and how that relates back to classical ideals of the female archetype in art
  • the male gaze in art, and the power dynamics between the male artist and the female subject
  • nude women in art
  • censorship of the female body

To connect with Gabby follow her art blog www.woodcut.ca and her art meme account @stone_fruit_only
