Wynnie Zhao (she/her) is an activist passionate about the intersection between gender, global development, business, and sustainability! She is currently pursuing a dual degree honours specialization in global gender studies and Ivey HBA along with Ivey's sustainability certificate at Western University. Wynnie has an extremely diverse portfolio, working on projects related to health equity, sustainability, global development, and more. She recently co-authored an article on the transition to net-zero for Canadian companies for the Ivey Centre for Building Sustainable Value.

Harjas Grewal is an incredible leader and advocate for gender equality, human rights, diversity, sustainability and more.  She has inspired much of my own activism including starting this podcast. Among her many accomplishments and experiences she has had in her short 22 years she is also the recipient of the 2020 Diana Award and recently founded the start up United Womxn, a platform aimed at bringing accessible education pieces, mentorship programs for youth in women's shelters and community housing along with other resources and opportunities!

In this episode, Jas gives insight into her journey including her experiences with failure and making space in important conversations. Grace Young and Serena Mendizábal are incredible activists passionate about climate change, energy transition, sustainability, racial and gender equality, and indigenous rights. Together they founded the Student Energy chapter at Western University and I connected with them through the Climate Crisis Coalition UWO. Grace is currently beginning her masters in Feminist Research with a focus on Canadian women in the energy sector and Serena is beginning her masters in Geography and Environment with a focus on Indigenous Health. Both women continue to be powerful advocates for the injustices faced by both the people and the planet.

In this episode, Grace and Serena give insight into their activism and journey and the barriers they have faced. We also unpack many topics including imposter syndrome, environmental and systemic racism, current indigenous issues, dismantling capitalism, and how to get out of the lonely and isolating silos society puts us in. Keerat Dhami is a climate activist from the Peel Region of Ontario. She serves as a member on the Peel Community Climate Council and is also a team lead with Youth Challenge International. In May 2020 she began her own Peel Climate Cafe, a safe space to connect and discuss the lived experience of climate change.

In this episode, Keerat gives insight into her own journey to activism, barriers she's faced, and current projects she is woking on. She emphasizes the importance of community organizing and community engagement as a means to address the climate crisis in the Peel Region.

A large misconception in today's society is that we as individuals do not have the power to make a difference in the world. We are surrounded by so many complex and connected issues like the climate crisis, racism, the COVID-19 pandemic, gender inequality, the list is endless. This podcast is here to tell you that you can make a difference and that no feat of activism is too small. 

This show will interview local activists to gain a better understanding of their journey to activism, some of the work they do, and how their work addresses larger issues like climate change and it's intersectionality with race, class, and gender. I hope to provide tangible strategies and resources to start you on your journey towards making the world a better place, one small activist at a time.
