32. Feng Shui for Health and Wellness Optimization with Ashley Cantley – Jackie Shea

49m · Published 25 Jun 10:16
Ashley Cantley, Feng Shui expert, manifester, mama bear Feng Shui for Health: Ashley Cantley was drawn to this ancient Chinese practice when faced with healing from a toxic relationship. Similarly, I only started putting attention on my living space when I was sick and doing some healing of my own.  Most people who have a current #lifegoal of "heal from illness" are in bed, and, in that case, shouldn't the bedroom feel like a sanctuary?  I believe that my living space is a reflection of how I am in the world, and I committed to making my whole home a giant vision board: Everything in it should make me feel good! That being said, I knew very little about the actual art and science of Feng Shui, so I was pretty pumped to get Ashley on and talk about practical suggestions to use Feng Shui for health and healing. How is Feng Shui an extension of holistic health? And how does it enhance other self-care practices? How can we make small changes in our home to enhance our health? Listen in here! Find Ashley for more Feng Shui tips on IG @fengshuiash and at her blog and website here. Weekly Challenges: This one can be a real game-changer! Clean and de-clutter the center of your home or living space. The center of your home is where the health and wellness energy resides. Of course it's in the center, right? It can be the most important piece of our lives. After a deep clean and serious de-clutter, purchase a swarovski crystal here and hang  it.  In the episode (around minute 20) we get into the deets behind WHY this crystal is the jam! Follow me @sheajackie on IG for weekly challenge updates. Discussed in this Episode: What Feng Shui is My personal journey of de-cluttering to heal Why Ashley turned to Feng Shui after a break-up How changing your space enhances your energy The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up What is a Feng Shui cure Acupuncture Traumatic Miscarriages Feng Shui for fertility Little adjustments you can make to enhance your health (like the sheet color on your bed!) WOO!  Go here to get your discount for being one of my listeners. You don’t even have to put a CC in! If you asked me to name the single biggest workplace time-waster, I don’t even have to think about it: The answer is email. In fact, a recent study found that almost 50% of the time that entrepreneur spend tending to their inboxes is spent on emails that should have never been sent to them or that didn’t need an answer. I’ve tried to manage the excess so many times, manually deleting thousands of emails, making folders, and unsubscribing to list but it always goes out of control again. When I got sick, I learned that I needed to have an organized, uncluttered life. I need to utilize every tool available to me to lessen my daily stress. However, Being a busy entrpeuner, it’s hard to keep a stress free email inbox. It can be overwhelming, in fact it gave me anxiety just to open my email. I desperately wanted a clear screen so I could streamline, focus on what was important and deal with what wasn’t important later. SaneBox gave me exactly that. I no longer waste my precious time and energy deleting unnecessary emails or being overwhelmed by a packed screen. Not to mention that the less I have distracting me, the more productive I am. When I have time, I can open the folders that SaneBox effectively manages for me and read the news and unimportant emails and read newsletters I’m interested in. I don’t miss anything important or that I enjoy! I can’t recommend this enough, my friends.

31. Stella De Mont • Listening to Your Own Miraculous Body’s Wisdom and Guidance – Jackie Shea

1h 16m · Published 18 Jun 10:00
Stella DeMont, founder of Whole Being Alignment, vivacious warrior Stella: Eleven episodes of pneumonia affected Stella between the ages of one and twelve. Yes, ELEVEN different episodes. Always bouncing back, she was never seen as sickly by herself or her fellows. At 19, after a bad sunburn, she woke up to a sudden fever, pain in every joint, and, shortly after the onset, was told that she would likely be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. It was at that point that her real research and search for integrative healing began, but it wasn't until many years and a Lyme disease diagnosis later that Stella was able to tap into her own true power to heal. Today, after saving her own life, healing from Lyme, and a host of other illness, Stella spends her days helping others get in touch with their own power—their own miraculous body's wisdom and guidance— so they can heal whatever needs healing in their own lives. Find Stella on IG @wholebeingalignment or at her website here.  Weekly Challenge: Drop into this present moment, soften your belly, and notice all of the ways you are supported. I'm dropping into my body as I type. Sure, it's not ideal to both work and drop-in, but I want to give you an example. My belly is soft, I'm breathing directly down to my pelvic floor (feels like taking a xanax). I feel a breeze—I feel the wind supporting my healing, I feel a soft chair beneath me, holding me. And, under the chair, a floor, and eventually dirt and roots and Earth. Supported. So supported. I have a cup of tea—both caffeine and clean water supporting me. I see sunlight, wondrous, miraculous sunlight... You get the drift, right? Stella says we are always supported, it's just about getting into this moment. 30. Maya Dusenbery, Author of Doing Harm: The Truth about How Bad Medicine and Lazy Science Leave Women Dismissed, Misdiagnosed, and Sick – Jackie Shea

53m · Published 11 Jun 10:00
Maya Dusenbery, author of Doing Harm, feminist writer, knowledgable AF Doing Harm: After her  Rheumatoid Arthritis diagnosis, feminist writer and author of Doing Harm, Maya Dusenbery, intuitively dove into the topic of women's health—not so much the uterus and the ovaries but a more realistic and extensive look at women's health. Why are women treated differently in the ER and the doctor's office? How did medicine become a wealthy, white, male profession? How does the old diagnosis of hysteria still play a role in medicine today? Maya answers these questions and so much more in this must-read. She uses statistics, research, personal hypothesis and heartbreaking stories from other women to make the case that bad medicine and lazy science leave women dismissed, misdiagnosed, and sick. In this episode we discuss all of this plus, of course, self-care in the midst of self-advocacy. Get in touch with Maya: Twitter: @mayadusenbery Website: www.mayadusenbery.com Link to buy book: Here Weekly Challenge: It's simple, my friends: Go to bed at the same time every night, be consistent, and create healthy circadian rhythms! This is so simple AND so important. Maya learned the hard way while writing Doing Harm how much of a difference it makes when your sleep rhythms are interrupted. We all know how much better we feel after a good night's rest. And, most of us know how necessary sleep is for healing. This is something simple you can do to assist your body in getting the most productive sleep possible. If you suffer from debilitating insomnia, I still suggest *trying* this. Simply replace the word "sleep" with "rest" to release some of the pressure. Remember to follow me on IG @sheajackie for updates in my stories! Discussed in this Episode: Maya's RA experience What is women's health and why does it go beyond gynecological care Examples of how women and men have different experiences with the same disease What are the symptoms of a heart attack for women (different than what you think!) How women got kicked out of the medical profession in the 19th century How women got pushed out of research and then analysis Bill Clinton's revitalization act and how it changed things The consequences of keeping women out of research and analysis The history of hysteria The way the diagnosis of hysteria still functions in our society today What medically unexplained symptoms are The knowledge and trust gap How doctors are under educated on diseases that disproportionately affect women The statistics that support this negligence Why men get diagnosed with autoimmune disease faster than women The shocking hypothesis that was drawn about migraines in men vs. women The way we've stereotyped women based on male stereotypes Why some women take men to the doctor with them and the results they get How Maya felt writing Doing Harm How women can empower themselves and advocate for equality in medicine How Lyme was discovered by two women Why it's important to share your story on the internet Resources Mentioned in this Episode: Sex and Gender Women's Health Collaborative Society for Women's Health Research National Women's Health Network Purchase Doing Harm Sini Anderson episode How you can support this Podcast: follow me at jackieshea.com Subscribe/ rate/ review on iTunes Follow me on IG @sheajackie Join the Healing Out Loud Facebook group Share with your friends

29. Lyme disease and Using Meditation to Heal—Healing Out Loud Podcast – Jackie Shea

52m · Published 04 Jun 10:07
Shona Curley, co-owner of Hasti Pilates,  founder of red kite meditations, mother, Lyme warrior Shona Curley's Lyme Journey: Shona is one of the seemingly lucky ones: She found the tick and pulled it out. But, even that didn't stop chronic lyme disease symptoms from appearing, and, surprisingly, it also didn't streamline her diagnosis. There's no doubt that, in Northern California where Lyme disease is prevalent, Shona should have been quickly diagnosed based on her symptoms and the tick, but doctors denied the possibility of a Lyme infection for over two years.  A barrage of symptoms—constant colds, severe GI issues, insomnia, crushing anxiety, noise and light sensitivity, cognitive impairment—left Shona and her family terrified and desperate for answers. It was a by-chance meeting with a random doctor who listened that left her with a Lyme diagnosis less than one year ago. Since then, Shona has found great healing from chronic Lyme disease in Buhner herbs, antibiotics, a medical intuitive, amalgam removal, and her own meditations tailored specifically for Lyme disease sufferers. You can find her meditations at redkitemeditations.com. You might find the one for your lymph system a fitting purchase for this week's challenge. Weekly Challenge Shona challenges us to do use visualization meditation to enhance our system's lymphatic drainage...specifically in the brain. You guys, the lymphatic system is of top importance when healing from (anything) Lyme disease—we need it to be properly moving along in order to rid our body of toxins. The lymphatic system does not have a pump, we are responsible for its flow through our own movement and detox efforts. So many people struggle with getting well simply because of a clogged up lymph. Shona says that by practicing a visualization of spring rain flowing down into your brain and picking up the debris on its way (to gather in your lymph and then be excreted) can have a huge impact on the actual movement.  I'm 100% down because WHY NOT!? I will be posting other lymph draining practices this week on my IG, @sheajackie. Discussed in this Episode: Lyme disease symptoms Lyme disease testing/ diagnosis Neurological Lyme Anxiety Insomnia Medical Intuitive Different Lyme treatments that have worked for Shona Embodying systems of your body through movement How Shona found her way back to sleep The Lymphatic system Lymphatic drainage Meditation Amalgam removal and why it's important Shona's experience with getting 7 fillings removed Detoxing after removal How Shona manages a big, full life with self-care Guidance from within Finding joy and purpose.. even on the hardest days Resources Mentioned in this Episode: Igenex lab for proper Lyme testing Buhner Protocol Adrienne  Fodor medical intuitive  Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen Lymphatic meditation Andy Cutler protocol Hasti Pilates How Can You Support this Podcast: Subscribe/rate/review on iTunes Follow me at jackieshea.com My favorite social media: Instagram @sheajackie Share it with your friends! Steamy Chick Vaginal Steaming 101: How many of you are shaking your heads in amusement? How many of you are doing that but also VERY curious? And how many of you are just like, this sounds weird but I am excited! After so many years dealing with periods that are so heavy I'm left chronically anemic, I had an entirely open mind when I first heard about vaginal steaming. Five months ago, a friend responded to a Facebook post I had written (Ladies! Any and all advice to slow the flow??) emphatically suggesting vaginal steaming. That was only five months ago, but the idea of steaming my uterus piqued my interest so much that I have been following around Steamy Chick on social media, reading her blogs, and steaming at home myself since. I'm so pumped that Keli Garza, founder of Steamy Chick, came on the show and now I get to share this gem with all of you! This episode is your vaginal steaming 101 course. We discuss its ancient origin (this is not some new trend, you guys), exactly how, when, and why to steam—steaming has been shown to help with everything from infertility to missing periods to blood clots. Plus, it literally feels like a sauna for your uterus. Those of you who are following along with my period series, this episode is part II. I am still in my trial period with vaginal steaming and will have a lot more to say about it in the coming months, but, for now, ENJOY this vaginal steaming 101 course. Weekly Challenge: Steamy Chick challenges us to steam at home this week! You don't need to buy anything, you can steam using things you already have: A pot, some tea, salt, and water. I just finished steaming five days in a row as per Keli's suggestion, and I'm meant to wait until the end of my period to steam for three more days (find out why in this episode!). So, my steam may or may not be lining up with the weekly challenge, but I WILL be waiting to hear from all of you on this! Dear naysayers, what have you got to lose? NOTHING. Unless your pregnant then PLEASE do not do this because you absolutely have something to lose. 27. The Struggles (and Triumphs) of Unexplained Infertility – Jackie Shea

55m · Published 21 May 10:00
Riva Lombardi, actress, mother, gratitude practicer   Riva Lombardi and Unexplained Infertility: You'll hear a baby gurgling (occasionally screaming) on and off through this episode—  this story of unexplained infertility ends in the birth of a beautiful little girl. In fact, eight-week-old Birdie was given just a 10% chance. But, she's here and she's loud and she's healthy. Birdie came after five years of struggle—miscarriages, heartache, devastation, hope—on the third IVF cycle. In this episode, we discuss Riva's journey with her husband, how they made it through, and they're doing today. Below you will find a more in-depth list of what we discuss, but, first, some advice from Riva—what to say and what not to say to someone struggling with infertility: Maybe don’t say things like-   "Do you really want kids?” (said as her 2 wonderful children run crazily around the house playing) “Oh I had a miscarriage too, it's not the end of the world” (says the woman with two children who conceived naturally) “How old are you?” (followed by an assessment of whether or not you 'still have time') “A friend of a friend tried for 4 years and then just got pregnant on her own!" (btw- I know a bunch of infertile friends who told their friends that too)    Instead, try saying/doing things like -   “I'm so sorry you're going through this” (and then sit quietly, listen, then offer to make them a cup of herbal tea because their acupuncturist probably has them off caffeine) “How are you? Do you want to talk about it?” (give them the option. I know it makes you feel uncomfortable, but try it out) After a miscarriage, failed cycle, or just because you know that they’re going a monthly struggle, send flowers, a card or candy. Acknowledge that they just lost the baby they'd been hoping for, or that another month of disappointment went by. My husband's Aunt came to me one day with a book on infertility,"I bought you this, and I bought one for myself too, so I can try to understand what you're going through".The book didn't matter (albeit it was an interesting read) but the idea of her trying to understand what I was going through was everything I had ever wanted. It was the single most caring thing anyone had ever done for me. Weekly Challenge: My dear friends, this is just a theme lately: Gratitude. I recently did an Instagram story on gratitude. I've written on gratitude here and I was recently interviewed by the Five Minute Journal on my relationship with gratitude. I love this stuff—I call it "finding your G-Spot" for a reason. It's THAT good. Riva's challenge is to say out loud one thing you're grateful for everyday. Throughout her experience with unexplained infertility, it helped her tremendously to gain perspective. Have a loved one? Do it with them over breakfast or before bed. Have kids? Maybe you can add this practice into your routine. Have friends? Give them a call and tell them what you're grateful for everyday for a week! Next time someone asks how you're doing say, "I'm so grateful that the sun is shining today." Keep me posted on IG @sheajackie how you do with this challenge. I will share my gratitude with you. Maybe I'll share in my Instagram stories everyday! Discussed in this Episode: Multiple miscarriages Riva's five-year-long struggle with unexplained infertility IUI IVF The thing that finally helped Fertility clinics How this struggle affected their marriage How this struggle strengthened their marriage Infertility support groups What the driving force was behind the continued effort Intralipid What role could a strong immune system play in infertility?
