Why Should I Exercise?

12m · Published 04 Jan 14:00

Exercise for many people can be difficult, or even unpleasant to do. We live in a society where we’re constantly told we need to get in shape, lose weight and move if we don’t want to be lazy slobs. Yes, research shows that exercise is very beneficial, but so are a lot of things out there and we don’t do all of those. Exercise makes me feel tired, sore and shows me just how weak I am compared to “The standard”. Why is exercise so heavily pushed and why should I do it to begin with?

Fighting Unbalancedness

16m · Published 31 May 19:00

When it comes to working out or training, most of us are pretty good at figuring out the different body parts to work. One of the things that we tend to neglect but is just as important is working on our balance. Balance training or balance, in general, is one of those things that many people lack, but they don’t take the time and effort to build it up as much as they would some of these other aspects of training. While balance may be underrated or overlooked, it is an essential part of keeping you healthy and injury-free.   I know we all joke about all the LifeAlert commercials and falling regularly but for many people, balance is the difference between walking off an injury or ending up in the hospital, so make sure to watch the entire video to learn some of the things that you can do to improve your balance so that you don’t end up falling on the floor. I didn’t want to see any of you in a LifeAlert commercial screaming for your life.

Fire Your Trainer Right Now If They Don’t Do These Things

11m · Published 12 Apr 19:00
When I first started getting into fitness, I was excited but had more questions than answers. At the time, I was only about 14 years old, so a personal trainer was not in the cards. Most of the resources I had access to were articles and videos of people who I thought were credible because they were "Jacked.". Spoiler alert just because someone looks like they know what they're doing doesn't mean they do. Having spent many years training and studying, I've gained a greater understanding of what's good advice compared to what's just great marketing. With the fitness industry growing quite quickly, people of all backgrounds have come into the limelight to share their "knowledge" with you, (This one secret will help you melt body fat, Doctors don't want you to know this one weight loss trick, etc.). While these headlines may be tempting, the reality is getting lasting results requires consistency and accurate information. One of the best ways to get on the right track is to work with an exercise professional. Like any resource, you have to know what to look for. Personal trainers are no different. You have to tell the good from the bad, so you don't end up wasting your time. To save you some of the hassles that come with trial and error, I've put together four of the things I believe every great trainer has. Try These Exercises If You Want Your Legs To Grow : Gain Insane Size, Strength And Speed!!

28m · Published 02 Apr 18:30

It seems like everyone and their grandmother has grown an infatuation with building a bigger butt and strong legs. Now I hate to break it to people out there, but many of us melanin blessed individuals have always had this appreciation. Regardless of that fact, it's nice to see the rest of the world catching up. Aside from that cheeky remark, a strong lower body is foundational in improving everyday movement. Building a strong lower body isn't rocket science. It may not be the most fun, but it isn't impossible. All it takes is a little consistent effort and an understanding of which exercises offer the best benefits. When training the lower body, I always recommend people incorporate compound movements that are either unilateral or bilateral. The compound lifts engage multiple muscle groups, making them more time-effective than targetting individual muscles. Unilateral movements focus on one part of the body, so any lunge, step up or single-leg movement. These exercises help fix imbalances you may have in your squat, running or jumping. The improvements also help reduce your chances of injury. Bilateral Movements focus on using both limbs in any given exercise. These exercises are great at building maximal strength because you can produce more force with two legs compared to one. While there are many exercises you can use to train your legs, I find the fundamentals always seem to give the best results.

The Secret To Super Strength With The Barbell

24m · Published 15 Feb 17:00

When it comes to lifting, the squat and the deadlift are some of the best Strength exercises. They're versatile and regularly used in sports programming and general training. You will commonly see strength athletes with extensive training squat and pull unbelievable numbers. For most people, the goal of lifting even half of these athletes' numbers is an ongoing journey. It's easy to look at these two exercises and think of simply pulling harder on the deadlift and doing more reps to get stronger on the squat as all you need to do. It's a shock to many lifters when they continue with the brute force approach and can't see their numbers moving or their form getting better. While doing more reps and learning to pull better does help improve your lifts, there are a few small tricks you can apply to improve your performance and make it easier to get towards that goal.

How To Hack Your New Years Resolution

15m · Published 04 Jan 21:00

It's that time of year again. 2021 has come to a close, and this past year was an eventful one. Many monumental changes came without warning, and like most things in life, they came without question and kicked our asses. From this rollercoaster of a year, we grew a greater appreciation for the time spent with loved ones, the importance of frugality, and the importance of prioritizing our mental and physical health. Above all, we grew to understand that time is a precious commodity that we shouldn't waste.

Moving into January, the cliche of "New Year new me" is one that I think better applies to this year. People often throw this phrase around to try and give life to new habits, dreams and projects that only last a month or two before they end up in the resolution graveyard. This New Year, I feel the dramatic events we overcame fundamentally changed how we view the world and ourselves. I'm optimistic that these changes will help make 2022 a more productive and fulfilling year. While dreams alone won't make the New Year better, hopefully, these tips help steer you in the right direction.

Battle For Your Heart: Does Regular Cardio Slow Down Muscle Progress?

17m · Published 21 Dec 21:00

Depending on who you are, cardio may be one of your favourite forms of exercise, or it may be one of the worst things known to man or woman. Regardless of where you stand, we all know we need to do it. The biggest problem is figuring out the quickest way to get it done and forget about it. If you're not the type of person that loves group classes and getting sweaty with strangers, finding the best piece of equipment to get your 20 minutes of hell over with is of the utmost importance. There are many different pieces of cardio equipment out there. Finding something practical, affordable, and effective is the hard part. In my opinion, two of the most used pieces of equipment for cardio are the Assualt/ Air Bike and the treadmill. The treadmill is commonly available in most gyms. It's easy to use and doesn't require much skill but burns quite a few calories. The Assault/ Air Bike has quickly gained popularity within CrossFit and even commercial gyms. The bike feels much more exhausting than a regular bike and gets both your arms and legs working, making it a full-body tool. Now, if you're still reading this, I'm assuming you're interested in finding out which piece of equipment is better, or you want to find a valid reason why you don't have to run to do your cardio. Regardless you're still here, so let's get it started.
