Coping With Change & Becoming An Empty Nester

31m · Published 14 Jul 10:00

My family has recently gone through a huge transition. Two of my kids have taken a leap and made the incredibly brave decision to move out and start their own lives outside of our home. It’s been a whirlwind of emotions, not only from myself and my husband but from our other children as well.

There has been such a huge focus on my younger kids during all of this and it’s something I wasn’t entirely prepared for. I’ve had to learn how to adjust to their new routines and living situations, while giving them space to process how they’re feeling during a particularly overwhelming time. It’s new territory for all of us, and it’s so understandable that they would need to take the time to comprehend what’s going on in a healthy way.

In this episode, I discuss how our family dynamics have shifted and the effect it’s had on my younger children, the lessons I’ve taught my kids in relation to their own independence, and how all of this has impacted us in the wake of the pandemic.
