How Our Values Shape Us Later In Life, with My Father Jack Oholendt

22m · Published 16 Jun 10:00

Today I’m joined by a very special guest, my father Jack Oholendt! He is a Certified Strengths and Conditioning Coach, Teacher, and Motivational Speaker and was kind enough to share some of the wisdom he’s gained throughout his life with myself and my listeners.

The values we learn early on in life are ones we tend to pass down when we eventually leave the nest and have children of our own. Empathy, kindness and personal development have always been a huge part of my life and have been something my parents actively taught me and my siblings growing up.

My father has an interesting perspective on family values as someone who grew up with a parent in the military and travelled a lot throughout his early years. In this episode, we get into the lessons that were instilled in my dad from his own parents, his advice for others who started a family at a young age, as well as what the transition to becoming a grandparent has been like.

If you’re interested to hear more, then tune in to Episode 9 of Six Pack!

Some Questions I Ask:

  • What are lessons you’ve learned from your parents that have made you into the father you are today? (2:32)
  • Could you speak on the idea of ‘proximity’ that you taught us growing up? (18:04)
  • What has the evolution from father to grandfather been like for you? (19:41)

In This Episode You Will Learn:

  • Some background on my father, Jack Oholendt (0:54)
  • How personal growth has always been a part of our family (1:18)
  • Values that were instilled in my father from an early age (8:03)
  • The emphasis on kindness and empathy throughout my father’s life (10:10)
  • How my father applies his ideologies in his teaching and influences his students (11:52)
  • Why my grandfather placed importance on positive self talk (12:31)

Why You Should Start Manifesting

23m · Published 02 Jun 10:00

Manifestation has been a part of my practice for years now. As a mother and business owner whose life can get pretty overwhelming at times, I’ve often had to remind myself of my own capabilities and inner strength. Our minds are powerful tools and when we learn how to tap into and utilize the best parts of ourselves, anything is possible.

In this episode, I share a few strategies I use in working towards my goals, how vision boards have helped me and my family stay motivated, and why using ‘I am’ statements are so important to the way we think about ourselves.

We all have so many bright and worthy ideas that are just waiting to be seen by the world and now is the time to put those goals in motion. Creating lifelong, positive habits will show us what we’re able to accomplish and will completely shift the way we think when approaching future desires. It’s also so important that we’re aware of our own worth and recognize that we are capable of achieving what we set out to do, just a few things that are possible through the power of manifesting!

If you’re ready to start making your dreams into a reality, then tune in to Episode 7 of Six Pack!

In This Episode You Will Learn:

  • What manifestation means to me (0:44)
  • What ‘I am’ statements are and how they can be used to influence your thinking (2:11)
  • How to structure an action plan for your goals (5:29)
  • How my family and I have used vision boards as inspiration (8:37)
  • Ways I incorporate items on my vision board in my meditation practices (14:35)
  • Why telling others about our goals can help us become more accountable (15:06)
  • The importance of practicing gratitude (15:47)
  • A strategy I use to shut down negative self-talk (18:47)

Adjusting To Life During Lockdown

44m · Published 05 May 10:00

Today I’m joined by my sister Shelby Herrington, a certified Strengths Coach who specializes in executive leadership and team coaching! Shelby was kind enough to give some insight into her career path journey and share her personal viewpoints on wellness in both life and business.

Our lives are moving at a strange pace at the moment, which means self-care has never been more important. In this episode, we discuss the effect quarantine has had on our family units, childhood ideologies we’ve had to challenge in our adult lives, and ‘Boxes for Boundaries’ theory, a three-step approach created by Shelby. She also delves into her transition going from the corporate world into the Life Coaching field and how that process came to be.

We also talk about the unique perspective we have as parents living through Covid-19 on opposite ends of the world. Shelby is based in the UK and talks about the outlook people over there have had towards the global pandemic in comparison to the US. We also touch on creative ways we’ve been keeping our kids engaged during lockdown and how we foster an open learning environment at home.

It’s vital that we give ourselves room to grow right now, particularly as parents and caretakers. Listening to ourselves and creating a balance is essential for a healthy mind, especially for our little ones who are processing this all at once. Though don’t feel selfish in prioritizing yourself and your own wellbeing, we’ve got to put our oxygen masks on before we can help those around us!

If you’re interested to learn more about these topics and gain some helpful advice from a qualified Life Coach, tune in to Episode 3 of Six Pack

Some Questions I Ask:

  • How have your children been handling quarantine? (8:28)
  • What has your journey been like shifting out of the corporate world? (16:06)
  • If we don’t take care of ourselves first, how can we move forward? (26:32)

In This Episode You Will Learn:

  • Creative ways to keep your children engaged and actively learning during quarantine (13:44)
  • The realities of emotional pressures and how that carries over into different aspects of your life (18:43)
  • The chemical effect stress has on your brain (20:18)
  • ‘Boxes for Boundaries’ Theory created by Shelby Herrington (27:00)
