Episode Overview: The first official season of Grey Box Collective and the story of doing more with less. This season GBC performed Understanding Otherness, Out of Hiding, Social/(anti) social, and Fool me Once…Fool me Twice… Molly also gives insight into hustle culture and its effect on a company and the people within it.

Producing Company Bio: Grey Box Collective is an arts organization that produces projects on social emotional wellbeing (i.e. we make weird art about tough stuff). GBC was founded in 2016 by Molly W. Schenck. GBC’s work is interdisciplinary, experimental, and post-dramatic. We work primarily at the intersection of performing arts, visual arts, educational psychology, somatics (body and mind connection), and feminist theory. We aim to explore brand new forms of expression and make choices to rebel against the “norms”. Our work prioritizes investigating broad ideas (ex. hate, othering, shame, mental health and sexual violence) and typically steps away from traditional plot lines or characters. Since forming, we have been in residency and performed with nue[BOX], the Phoenix Center for the Arts, the Boulder Fringe Festival, and the Network of Ensemble Theatre’s annual conference. We have partnered with the Artist’s Box, Z-Room, The Movement Project, The Phoenix Hostel and Cultural Center, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Prison Law Office, the Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence, and Take Back the Night Phoenix, and La Frontera (EMPACT)'s Trauma Healing Services Division. Fascinated with human movement - whether a social justice movement, individuals persisting through systems, or how a body moves through space and time. She worked in higher education as an adjunct professor & administrator for 10 years. She taught mindbody & group fitness classes for 12 years. Hannah Bridgeo is a dance educator, artist, musician & a grown-up theater kid. Currently, Bridgeo works as a dance & theater teacher at a high school in northern Phoenix. Bridgeo started dancing at 4 years old and performed her first drama monologue in kindergarten. She started learning reading and performing various instruments around the same time. Bridgeo graduated from Grand Canyon University in 2021 with a degree in Dance Education. She is passionate about teaching in public schools because she believes everyone should have access to learn, create and produce art. Chasity Flores is a professional Dancer/Choreographer, an Arizona State University Alumni. She received her BFA in Dance and has been a part of many works at Arizona State University and throughout her community of Arizona. Since she and her twin sister, Destiny Flores (aka Ave Marcello of The Sintrics;local Arizona Rock Band)were young girls they would sing in beauty pageants together and at many event as well as performing songs in ASL (American Sign Language).She has been performing since she could walk, she started out a beauty pageant baby, young philanthropist for the cool hand club foundation, competitive cheer and was featured on ESPN with her pop-warner cheer-team, the boilermakers, Fiesta bowl runner up for Best soloist 2014, and 10 years of teaching experience from learning centers , group homes,studios, internships, and her true passion for dance. She is a trauma informed artist and facilitator. She choreographed a duet called Fallen Robin that was showcased in the spring 2016 undergraduate show at ASU as well as a Solo titled Shhh...eets and the bed along with it presented in the spring showcase of 2016.She has danced in works by artists around the valley with artists such as Jenny Gerena, Ricardo Alvarez,and Molly Schenck.

Haley Nielsen is the costume designer for Understanding Otherness. She has an undergraduate degree in art from ASU and a Masters in Design from Oslo National Academy of the Arts. Her focus areas are folk costume, natural dye and the dialogue between body and culture.

Adam is grateful to be a part of Grey Box Collective once again, and create original works. Raised in the cold mountains of Helena, MT and starting in poetry & musical theatre, Adam received his BA in Theatre (Acting Concentration) from ASU in 2016. That following winter, Adam moved to LA to pursue acting dreams & networking. Adam continues to work on film & theatre in the area, primarily works with an educational theatre program currently (Kaiser Permanente). He also practices and writes his own sounds with his instruments: guitar, violin, harmonica & piano. Adam Mendez has also voiced his first VO character in the project, ⁠“In the Ring with Daisy King”⁠ alongside Ramona Young. GBC finds innovative ways of exploring, challenging, and igniting difficult conversations. This is achieved by living in the messy grey areas of life and tackling socially relevant topics such as hate, shame, sexual violence, depression, and anxiety. GBC was founded in 2016 by Molly W. Schenck. Since then, GBC has produced over 20 new works, created by nearly 100 artists, and partnered with a dozen local organizations. GBC has presented work at the Boulder Fringe Festival, the Network of Ensemble Theaters’ annual conference, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, and at the Phoenix Center of the Arts while in residency with nue[BOX]. In response to the pandemic, GBC expanded it’s digital offerings by hosting virtual workshops on Trauma-Informed Creative Practices, opening an online store with devising tools, and launching a podcast. Adam is grateful to be a part of GBC again, and create original works. Raised in the mountains of Helena, MT and starting in poetry & theatre, Adam received his BA in Theatre from ASU in 2016. Adam moved to LA to pursue acting & networking and continues to work on film & theatre, he primarily works with an educational theatre program currently (Kaiser Permanente),he practices and writes his own sounds with guitar, violin, harmonica & piano. Adam voiced his first VO character in the project, ⁠“In the Ring with Daisy King”⁠ alongside Ramona Young. Delia Ibañez is a place-based interdisciplinary artist and administrator raised in Virginia where Dividing Creek opens out to the bay. With a BA in Performance and Movement and certification in Socially Engaged Practice in Design and the Arts from Arizona State University, Delia utilizes the arts as a way to encourage critical thinking and relationship building. Delia’s personal body of work, Process in Place, has four branches - workbooks, residencies, collections, and workshops - which all intertwine to form networks of creative action directly impacted by geographical context. As the child of Alvaro Ibañez, a Colombian-born artist and graphic designer, and Denise DeVries, a writer and translator, Delia gained the family value for supporting access to the arts in rural communities (Learn about the family’s work here A-Ibañez Art Design,). This led directly into work in dance, language, and visual/media design elements to create immersive and interactive reflective experiences. Delia is collaborating with Greybox Collective utilizing the Trauma Informed Creative Practices model. They are also involved with Safos Dance Theatre and Latin Hispanic Dancers United in addition to independent choreography, dance films, and publications
